Well
I managed to make it home safely. Still on US time, going to bed in the middle of the night and waking up late in the mornings. The kids are grumpy, the wife is grumpy and to top it all I didn't get my promotion at work.
What's that saying.... "There's no place like home"
Anyway, the good news. My new toys are now in their rightful place. I have eclosed a picture of my gum machine. If you look closely (sorry about quality of picture) you will see that it is missing the coin entry chrome plate. I know a lot of you are gumball/candy fans. Does anyone know where I will be able to buy a replacement piece of trim for it?? I tried Roger at Crowriver but he doesn't have any.
My new payphone (which frigtened the life out of your secruity chaps. It was tested for explosives and alsorts) has cleaned up wel. I used a little oil and freed the dials clogs up. The only probem I have is the transmission level is very low. Recieving is fine but talking back is only about 40% at best. Does anyone have any knowledge at all about telephones or can point me in the right direction.
Today I put a set of Computer speakers in my Drive In Movie speaker holders and have now rigged it up through my PC and connected the lot to a Seeburg wallbox. I can download anything I like and have an orginal 1950's selector playing music through a PC out onto original Movie speakers. When you can do things like that why worry about work and minor things like feeding the family.

Dave my father knows alot about the old pay phones. I will ask him today. there was a time when we restored about 50 of them. We sent 25 of them off to las vegas and had them gold plated and had the other 25 black powdercoated. they were really cool looking. I was too young to remember how to fix them but I am sure dad will know.

Ok I spoke with my father. How old is your phone. Can you post a pic. If it is a really old phone it wont work on todays network any way meaning that it has been changed over anyway. But he said that he bought a new board for the phones at a company named Phoneco. They specalize in antique phones. You could change it over with their parts. However there is almost nothing to the works of a telephone. If you can find a rotary phone or even a push button phone that has a swich from touchtone to pulse you can take the phone apart and use its parts from it in your payphone. But also if the only probem is the transmission is low unscrew the mouthpiece and make sure everything in there is Ok. They might have unscrewed it in customs and pinched a wire or something. I hope this might help. I am sorry that I don't know more about this.

There's a guy here in California that restores old pay phones. he restored ours that is chrome plated and came out of a old casino in Las Vegas. The company's name is "Hello Central" and he's located in San Luis obispo. 805-541-9123  '>

he has collected for 40 years.... belongs to all the clubs and has restored all my phones and
I bought my payphone from him after he restored it....
I'm sure he can help.... Super nice man...... Has an awesome collection......

I just post yesterday that after 4 weeks I didn't get a call on my ad...now
I just got 2 calls for the same model machine that Trew posted... made by National
One he wants $25 and the other owner I haven't spoken with yet....
Still hoping for a Stoner to come through we'll see....

Well... got home last night with a message on the phone for a candy machine
And Yes... It's a Stoner!..... Now I can't go look at it till next weekend because of the show
But they've had it for 25 years, bought it at a sale and has been in their shed since... They've never done anything with it....(hope the shed has a floor...and not a dirt floor)
Anyway they really didn't give a price... But having it for 25 years I bet they didn't pay much.
So I'm hoping $100 or less...
Going to look at a National (Sounds like the model Trew posted here first) tomorrow... $25!
Was told it came out of a theatre...
Anyway soda machines have dried up but the candy machine ad has gotten three good calls.
It says: “Buying old upright mirrored pullknob candy machines, Stoner, National, Rowe and Canteen.”
I may run it again since these 3 popped up here at the last week of running.
I think I'll run another for old soda bottle machines and chests too.
Advertising works!
