You are all correct.  I used to get a kick out of that show but it is not close to realism.  Maybe I will stop watching these so called "reality" shows and restore my Vendo 81a or another Seeburg C jukebox.

Those old Coke crates range from $10 to $25 in our area; of course, it sounds like the price just went up.  I had some friends over on NYE and they were looking at my machines and started asking questions about Pickers/Pawn/Restoration etc.  I told them all that those shows are neat based on some of the stuff they "find" but that the prices are nowhere near reality for most of the items.  Also, filled them in on some of the "quality" restoration work done by he who shall remain nameless.

I like watching the shows just to see the stuff but the prices just kill me.  Brandi and Jared placing $500 on a used chest of drawers that you could buy for less than that new at a furniture store sale--they do have sales don't they? 

Of the shows, I think Pickers tends to give the closest to reality prices but even they go overboard sometimes.

I have one that I had on CL, yellow with the dividers. I was just trying to clear out some of the small stuff. Never even got a nibble. I brought home a 7Up case w/ dividers and bottles along w/ some other items that a guy threw in with a 7Up cooler I bought this fall. I've put it on CL a few times at $10 w/ the bottles just to get it off the floor and not a nibble.

I just started watching some of these "reality" shows. 

I find that I can only watch American Pickers; it is the only thing anywhere close to reality.  There is no way they could stage the hoarders they visit or the places they go picking.  They seem to give realistic values to what they hope to flip stuff for.

But it is a show, so they ham it up and set up this crap for the drama too.  I saw an episode of Resto Rick where the Pickers found a 1955 Chevy for the Pawn Star guys and he has Rick restore it for some stupid amount of money.  It was so cheezy, they were all there.  And the restoration is a big  rush because it's for the old man's birthday.  Drama!!!!   What a joke.

Wonder if Pickers & Rick will all go to the Pawn Shop for Happy Birthday cake & ice cream when they finish it.  Maybe the Jersey Shore clowns will be invited too.

There was a Breakmate type of machine too. I don't think they really said anything about it. Just as well I guess.

John Nese, the person who gave those prices is the owner of "Galco's Soda Pop" in Southern California, I have been to the store once and it was pretty cool because there is every kind of old soda and candy there.  This guy knows his soda pop, but not sure he knows about collectables.

 I missed it but a guy stopped by my house today to look at my basement and with all the stuff I have in there now I know why he said look there is one of those gallon jugs worth $75.00 and I did tell him I had two for that price.

That's what drives me crazy about Storage Wars and shows like it... 

Someone gets a locker, wades in, puffs out their chest, looks at some worthless item and says "that's worth $300" (as an example) and it is added to how much money their locker is worth when usually in my experience the item they just mentioned is nowhere NEAR that value... their guess is just treated as fact and usually couldn't be further from the truth!

Even when they bring it to a so called "expert" as was the case with the bottles mentioned above anybody can say items are worth anything but to me that holds no weight... if the expert evaluates the item and says "I'll give you X number of dollars for it", pulls out his wallet and puts his money on the table THAT is where I start to believe that is the real value...

While I enjoy watching Storage Wars to see what treasures they find, I think they are really screwing up the market for those of us who like to buy old collectibles... hell, I have been to garage sales where 85 year old ladies are massively inflating their prices and telling me how much something is worth "because they saw it on the TV" and even Craigslist sellers are doing it... anybody want a Coke cooler for $650 because there's one on CL right now! Kinda takes the fun out of it when people are trying to gouge you because of a TV show...
