In several auctions, I have ended up in competition with a fellow member over an item. Not intentionally - both of us were snipe bidding at the end. It has happened between Moondawg and I and again last night between Signguy (I think) and me on a V81b. If it wasn't for one of us, the other would have won the 81 for $735. Instead, it sold for $1025. Now that is a shame that we couldn't have known about each others intent. I usually snipe at the end, but throw a small bid in early to get it in my ebay bidding page.
I tried to find 90grad's listing of ebay/SMC names, but came up empty. I thought it was pinned at the top of a forum. Here is what I propose. If anybody has any suggestions, let's get it going and save each other some money. Everybody "call" the items you are interested in by placing a small bid like I do. If another member sees the listing and has an interest, just PM the bidding member and ask if they really want it or if they care if you take it. We just need to communicate! '>

That or we could have a member only section that would be a heads up for ebay auctions. I know that I hate to post about auctions that I entend on bidding on because there are alot of guests that visit here. If it were a members only section it would cut down on that problem. Just a thought.

QUOTE I know that I hate to post about auctions that I entend on bidding on because there are alot of guests that visit here. I agree - I don't post auctions that I am interested in just for that reason. There has to be some solution though - I don't know how many Forum spots Jim has to spare, but I kind of like the Soda Jerk section idea. I think we all have enough respect for each other that we would step on somebody's toes and you would have to have been around a while in order to access the posts.

Yea, maybe in the Soda Jerk area we can post auctions that we are interested in bidding on or maybe ask Jim to start another category in the Members Area. Something like "Interested Auctions", "Auction Alert" or "Don't Be a Jerk, Soda Jerk" (okay, last one was a joke). I agree that we don't need people lurking and seeing what we are interested in and how much we may be willing to pay.

I'm with the good doctor. I like to know what people are thinking about bidding on but at the same time I am also aware that there are people out there who just read and don't post.
A members only section would be great.

It's hard to regulate what you are willing to pay versus what another member is willing to pay. I recently purchased a Stoner machine that another member wanted, near the end of the auction it appeared they weren't in the bidding anymore so I sniped it at $335. They had pooped out around $200. How can you tell if they are waiting to snipe or out of gas? It's tough to call dibs on a 7up 81 when you are only willing or able to pay $2000 for it and others are able or willing to be more realistic.
just my 10 cents

The thread I started used to be pinned until about a month or so ago. I don't know what happened to it. Regardless, I agree we need to have some way to communicate about this stuff. Granted, an auction is an auction, but we are friends here and we also don't want to run the price up on eachother.

QUOTE How can you tell if they are waiting to snipe or out of gas? That is why we need to communicate about it. I agree that to ask a member to step aside on a VMC 7Up 81 because you want it for $2000 is unrealistic, but if there was just some correspondence between us then it would be beneficial to all concerned. I personally don't care that Signguy won it (another will come around), but it is a shame that $300 was wasted.
QUOTE The thread I started used to be pinned until about a month or so ago. Yeah - I couldn't find it. Jim added the Route 66 Transportation forum about that time - maybe it got misplaced in the rearranging.
