Help needed

Is there anyone here that has a Ram 1500 pickup that can tell me the inside WIDTH of the back bed  (inside to inside of wheel well)

I want to rent one to move 2 machines and I THINK I  can transport them on their side, but I just cant find the dimensions on the net.

Any help would be great...
Thanks

Most short beds are 6 ft long by 4 feet wide.  If it's a long bed usually they are 8 ft long 4 ft wide...

"The Ram 1500 is a full-size truck offered in three body styles -- regular cab, extended cab ("Quad Cab") and crew cab. The regular cab can be had with either a 6-foot-4-inch bed or an 8-foot version. The extended cab comes only with the 6-foot-4 bed"

A long bed can fit a full sheet of plywood ( 8x4) with the tailgate closed typically...

Yes. Normally 4 feet wide. As Slapshot mentioned, will fit a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood etc.

I'm with these guys. All full size trucks can handle a 4 X 8 sheet.
Our F150 short bed is still 4 feet wide between the wheel wells, but six feet long. That's not a Ram 150 but you'll find that all "real" trucks are pretty standard as far as the bed goes.

Thanks guys.... I think with that info I feel comfortable with what I rented, and I ' pretty sure I can put 2 machines back to back on their sides with the gate closed.

Again, thanks guys!

Leonard..... the fact that you got 2 81's on their sides assures me that I can transport my 2 machines.....  ok, I might as well say what they are in advance..... picking up 2 VMC 88's.... pictures to follow once I get them lol

Don, I think in your next life you should be a detective lol.... the fact that you remembered I rented a RAM 1500 when I came to your place made me laugh...  nice one lol.... I forgot that I even mentioned that to you Smiley

I'm heading out to pick up the machines on Tues or Wed.....  I should have a pic up of them by Thursday.

As for what 88's they are, Ill just say that they are not the same brands.... lol.... (although they only made 4 brands of the 88's, so it's kind of obvious as to what they are  laugh

Yes they are a bit deeper.... but I'm hoping that I can put them back to back and have the coin door sit in front of the wheel wells closer to the cab if not.

88's are 18" deep, the coin door is 3" and the handle another 2".... so that bring it to 23"  x 2 which would be 2" shy of 4' so I think I'm ok.

worse case scenario is I have to stand one up and against the cab and have the other lying flat with the gate open.

I've transported an 88 upright, because I had to. I just made sure it was strapped well and kept it below 60 mph on the corners.  laugh ( 90 kmh for the Canadians in this discussion). Either way, you should be fine!

Looks like Christmas has come early Ed.

Weather looks good for traveling. No snow or ice in the near future.

Safe travels.

I have a Ram 1500 short box.

the length of the bed with tailgate closed is 65"
width between wheel wells is 50"

The beds are only about 20" with a tonneau cover.. so might have to leave it open.

I have had 2 81's on their sides in there no problem..

I can fit two 110's (back to back on their sides) in the back of my Tahoe and still close the cargo doors. It is 4' x 6' also. You should be fine with 88's.

Or take an electric drill with you and remove the coin doors and associated parts?

Taking the coin door off is an idea!  But if 2 110's fit side to side,..... I think the 88's should do fine (I'll be checking the dimensions when I get home)

I thought I was going to leave today to pick them up... but the seller had a change of plans and will not be around to have me pick it up.... so it's been re sched. till after X mas.....
Oh well, instead of an early gift for me, it's a late one lol

Thanks again all for the info on the bed size etc!

Just a thought...
Perhaps, depending on the truck bed length, long bed would work, place the machines coin door to coin door but stagger them with cardboard and blankets...
You may have to leave the tailgate down and place a ratchet strap across the tail gate area...

First time I opened this thread. I was wondering how there was 3 pages for the size of a truck bed. Haha. Jerod, do you sell them? You rattled off those models quite impressively. Well I know what one of the machines is, not saying, but clueless on the other. As for the truck I'm sure it will be fine. Worst case you rent a one way trailer coming back .

A recent haul....one machine across the back of the bed, two machines back to back with tail-gate down and a ratchet strap across.  Everything was well padded.

Well, after renting the truck, then having to cancel because the seller wasn't available.... THEN getting an email 5 hrs later that he is in fact available, I left Monday night to pick up the machines and because of HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY X 10 Fog.... it took me 30 hours roundtrip to pick up these refrigerators! lol

I actually placed one 88 machine flat on it's back, and the other on it's side with coin door facing outwards..... it's like the bed was made for this configuration  laugh  it fit perfectly......

I'll post pics of my year end haul later on.

Thanks all for the help !

Sorry, didn't mean to make it so suspenseful lol..... just don't like spilling the beans before I get them in my hand  smile

I picked up a really nice original pepsi 88 and a solid Coke 88
Although I already own each of these, I just thought they deserved a good home  laugh

With the Coke 88... it was on Ebay for too long of a time, and he had a "Make an offer", which I did outside of Ebay, and we were both happy.
It was poorly repainted once upon of time, but the body is solid like new.

I feel asleep on the couch from the long drive, and now it's dark in the garage to take a pic.... will do so tomorrow.
