I picked up a W-44 today to repair for a local guy. It was shoved in the back of his dad's barbershop when he was a kid. Now he runs the place with his mom and wants to get it back to running. I thought I would post some pics. That way everybody will know what machine I'm talking about, when I have questions about it. Jerry

It seem to be in nice shape! it's also known a "poor-mans" 44 ( as opposed to a VMC/Vendo 44)

Spoon-feeding Newbies since 2001... Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes. Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon! The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor 11 is louder than 10... "Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

I was going to ask about the t-stat earlier because I had never seen one like it before. But now I need to ask because it doesn't seem to be working. Is it also a relay in the same box used to start the comp.? Can somebody shed some light on this strange creature. By the way, everthing else seemed to work fine, including the original compressor and fan motors. The National Rejectors coin mec was set for 10 cent and worked as well.
Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry,
Is there a wiring diagram anywhere on/in the machine? The stat wires may be hooked into a junction box with the start/common/run wires for the compressor. If so, you may wanna install a new stat and a 3 'N 1 relay.
Could you post a photo of the compressor wiring?

I have never actually looked at my WC-44, but Westinghouse did everything "in-house". My Vendo Junior has an unusual T-Stat and my WD5's each have a different box type T-stats. According to my WC-44SK manual, you could order the whole control assembly or the relay and contact assembly could be ordered seperately. For my WD5's, Steve Ebner at Fun-Tronics had NOS T-stats for them. If you can get me the model refrigeration unit number off the ID plate (on the compressor deck), I can get you the T-stat part number.

I noticed on my Westinghouse Master, it uses a similar relay/t-stat set-up. It could be opened up and looked at, but the w-44 I haven't figured out how to open it. Thought about the 3-n-1, but also thought about could I by-pass just the t-stat and wire in a new one. Or maybe just wire in some universal relay and a new t-stat. Yes there is a diagram, but it is covered in Coke & dirt & is hard to make out, or sense. The numbers on the compressor deck are list as, P/N # Y-37091, M/N # W-44, S/N # 18611520.

Glen and Wayne are probably right; however, if the guy would like to keep it as original as possible... Check with Steve Ebner at Fun-Tronics and ask if he has a NOS Temperature Control for the WC-44SK. The part number is Y-7369 - comes complete less cable. He garrantees them to work, but doesn't know how long they will work.

I think I have the same compressor in my Westinghouse Master. When I redid it, all the wiring (including the stat) went to one relay box. I just bought a new stat and 3 'N 1. Hooking it up was a breeze and it works great. '>
