Yes, it is supposed to alternate vending cans from the front row to the back. It has a ratching mechanism that works ok as long as you twist the vending knobs kind of swift. If you take your own sweet time about it, it will vend just one row. You can remove the ratching hardware and add a spacer to vend bottles, but I don't have any spacers and I prefer the cans any way. A Church nearby has one like mine, but set up for bottles. Technically it will vend cans but they don't have the correct hardware to make the switch either.

I also have a USS Cavalier -64 (I would love to have a 96--more choices!) It is best to load the bottles backwords because they shift as they vend and the thicker end of the bottle that is towards the knob moves less. If you vend it with the cap end facing you, sometimes the row gets out of whack.
The machine I got was 200, mint , has worked 3 years with no problems and vends anything. Well worth your time and money. I would have pad more for it if i knew how sweet it was.

I have a USS96 that's just like Dan's except that it's bigger. Bought for $200. Cost me another $50 bcks to replace the vend switch and all the fluorescent bulbs and starters. Great machine. Kids get <<cheap>> cans of pop on the bottom and my beers are on top. It's a keeper just because of it's veratility.
