I laid this on it's side when purchased for transport, left it there for 24hrs, unloaded it plugged it in. It wasn't getting cold. Joined this great site and saw I may have plugged it in to fast. Unplugged it for 48hrs plugged it back in yesterday, still no cold. Popped the little black box off the side of the compressor...   Well now we are getting somewhere!

In the case this was in there is a small rust hole (dime size) right where this unit is at. I believe it shorted long ago from the looks of it, and the fact there was no smoke, sound, and smell in my garage.

Can someone tell me what this is that is burned up? and can I simply purchase a new one? '<img'>

Thanks

This piece of toast is your Start/Run relay & if you were mindfull enough to draw a picture of which wires went where before you disconnected it, you should be able to replace it with a modern start/run unit.

in the first picture, the  "M" terminal is for your "run" winding/connection on the compressor, the "S" terminal is for the "start" connection to the compressor, & there should be a "C" ( the "L" in this case) terminal is for the common/neutral wire for the compressor.

I didn't draw it, but did take quite a few pics (for this post, thank god) and think I will be able to figure out.

In looking at it again I may have to replace the wiring. By time I cut the crisp out, I don't think it will reach any more. Thanks for the info, I will get to looking for one!

You can get a 3-in-1 relay for about $25 from one of the sponsors of this site.
