Ok, I got to work some more on my Cavalier, I do believe my compressor is a lost cause.

It tries to work, but cuts off and on really fast. I've tried all the settings and it does the same thing no matter whrere the t'stat is set.

So send me your opinions on where I should go from here.

New updated compressor or find someone local to try to breath new life in it (if anyone local is willing to) or send it off somewhere?

I plan on getting the cooling system working first then have it painted.

Sounds like you need a new starter. Go buy a 3 in 1 starter. You can get one from your local HVAC store. They are about $15 and it replaces the stuff behind the black plastic thing on the compressor. They are really easy to install. That should be your first step.

I had a compressor that did the same thing that yours is doing.  As Loman4ec suggests I went out and got a hard start to replace the starter on the compressor.  It continued to start and stop about every 10 seconds.  I replaced the compressor.

Ok,
I worked yesterday on the machine.

Used the shop vac and cleaned out the compressor unit along with a lot of newly established spider webs.

Anyway, the compressor no longer cycles off and on fast. The fan runs BUT the fan on the evaporator unit up inside the chest will not run at all. Will not come on at any setting and it was plugged in for 10-15 minutes.

Where to go from here?'<img'>

Jas,

The evap fan should run at all times, regardless if the compressor has kicked on.  The evap fan gets power from the wiring harness and isn't dependant on the thermostat setting.  It runs to constantly circulate the air in the box.  The fan motor could be shot or you have another wiring problem.

You stated the compressor no longer cycles on and off quickly.  Does it run at all? Does the evap coil get cold?

It runs, does not get cold. Seems like every time I move the darn
thing something else stops or starts working.

I'm ready to take everything out and send it to Houston. But cant do
that for atleast 3 months. Other projects and work is keeping me busy.
My down time is Jan - March.
