Ok, I pulled off the grill from the back of the Cavalier CD 22, (depends on how you look at it, the back can also be the front it has bolts on both sides for the cap catchers).
Anyway, there are a couple places on the compressor that looks like something has gotten hot at one time and melted the plastic casing. So I need some guidence on where to go from here. I couldnt stay out there too long the mosquitoes were horrible. So I'll look again this morning.

I sent Eric at global compressor an email with same pics a few days ago havent heard from him yet. Maybe he can give me some input on what's the cause and fix.

Jas,
That plastic casing is the cover for the relays for the compressor. You can take the metallic clip off and remove the cover. This way, you can inspect the relays, wires, and electrical posts underneath. Hopefully, nothing cooked under there, although they are replaceable items.

Jasmine.....Good news. You have an updated compressor deck. The plastic side covers were not used until the age of the square corner uprights. The suspended fan motor is a signature of Cavalier, 64 / 96? Much better unit than originaly came with your machine.
Replace the burnt wire and try it again. I believe the overload would have saved the compressor from damage.

Well that 's good news.
I wont be able to get a look at it until next week. I pulled a muscle moving a metal futon, now my back hurts unbelievably bad. It's the 2nd time this summer! The last time was opening a 50 lb container of pool chlorine.

So what kind of coolant would be used in this compressor? It needs recharging anyway so
would it take the new stuff and if so, would it need to be upgraded?
Did that make sense? Must be the pain pill. NOTE Never move a full size metal futon by yourself. |

Even though it is considered "newer" by virtue of not being original and having a plastic cover over the wiring instead of the metal type, it is more than likely charge with R-12.
Hope your back heals up soon and you get back into the swing of things!  '>
