The news said only 10 complaints? Hell, I was getting 10 a month, from people screwed by this guy.
I still don't understand, why someone would send money up front. Word of advice folks.... if the person you're dealing with, has to buy parts with "YOUR" money.... move on and find someone else. You're just asking for it!
Alan got what he deserved.

I can't imagine that this is the end of his shenanigans! He has demonstrated that at best he takes on too much work and does not follow-through timely. At worst, well we have all seen and heard the stories. Tigers don't often change their stripes. Hopefully the threads on this site will serve as a warning to anyone considering using his services. You 'professional' guys... if you can't do the job, out of your pockets, then don't take on the GD job! It's not a Union. You don't get to keep the cash and then go on strike! Do the job, or give the man his money back.
Amen to that brother! Tim

I don't get riled up over much and I've been a member here for longer than I can remember, but this kind of sh*t pisses me off to no end. I just found out about my "friend"... and you can bet your a**... I'd have brought it up before hand.

I was thinking about that one a little bit earlier, it sounds like that guy was the one beating the drum getting everyone to contact the AG and contacting the local news to do a story on it. If Alan's lawyer/advisor had a head on their shoulders, they probably told him to send that machine for free and then tell the 'investigative' team what they did and have them follow up for some positive PR spin on the whole debacle.

What a joke. Once a liar always a liar. Anyone buying any of this should have their head examined. He has only made good on these because a judge ordered him to do so. Anyone who now has faith in him should send him your machine and kiss your money good-by.

Unfortunately when things like this happens, it makes it harder on the honest guy out there providing restoration services. Good piece of advice by Eric quoted above.

My wife and I drove up there probably 2 to 3 years ago after I had called and asked him if I could tour his collection and he met us there and gave us a personal tour of the entire collection and it was amazing! This was before I had ever even heard of the problems that were going on. Glad I got to see it. Genudoc are you coming to Charlotte for the Autofair in September?

I'm not defending Alans actions at all Eric, but as a fellow restorer I must express my point of view. We all know a restoration requires a lot of outside services and those aren't cheap. Every buisness uses working capital, and no matter how much or how little they have on hand, when any cash is tied up in parts and services for one customer's machine, that is money that can not be invested elsewhere for several months. The customer owns that machine, I feel he should also pre-purchase his parts and outside services, particularily to confirm his commitment. I usually ask for a 25% deposit Imagine carrying a guy's machine through an entire restoration. Then contact him and find out he lost his job or got divorced or Bla Bla Bla... and asks if you can carry him until his luck changes. ................................................................or he could just let you keep the fully restored Vendo 83.

After 8 (or jeez maybe it's 9 now - lost count) knee operations, I should get an honorary membership in the Knee Society. I think one more and I get the next one free! Jim

I have to stand by Glen on this one too... I understand partially with what your saying Eric and I agree that any money's collected should go toward the machine they are being paid on and not to finance other machines or operations. I also agree NO one should pay %100 up front either... I do my restorations "Business" on the side, it's a hobby.. and all my customers know that.. with that being said, we all know it costs a lot to restore a machine, especially if we are farming out the paint/body work, and of course chrome, powder, etc.... I ask for a deposit as well with a restoration, and the give the option to make payments along the way as I progress with the restoration with of course the final bill to be paid upon completion. So to say all guys who ask for some money up front are Crooks, I'd have to think there is an exception to the rule... Glen and myself have built up a pretty fair reputation as well as others.. and I would just ask and tell people ... DO YOUR HOMEWORK before hiring someone to do your machine, Check sources, referrals, etc... then decide who is going to do the work. Just my two cents. John I'm not defending Alans actions at all Eric, but as a fellow restorer I must express my point of view. We all know a restoration requires a lot of outside services and those aren't cheap. It is nice to see that justice has finally been served. Yes, I made a HUGE mistake and yes I have learnt a valuable lesson. Thank God it did not cost me anything! Not to mention if I never had the hick up with Alan, I would have never lined up with "SIGNGUY", which I'm sure will have plenty more of my business in the future. That is why forum sites such as this are extremely beneficial to consumers! Thanks.

I'm the guy in Illinois mentioned in the report, but I was never contacted by the TV reporter. Alan did call me and offer to send me a basket if I ever found another Vendo Junior. I guess I should have called him on his offer and told him to send the basket and I would find another Junior later. Alan didn't seem sick last fall when he prevented me from picking up my machine and threatened to call the cops on me.
