Post pictures or stories of your best machine finds of 2013.

1st :

Barq's 55- Read an old post that a SMC member posted about a a guy that had been collecting all of the embossed sliders.  Turned out guy was selling them.  With the help of a good MoonDawg81 a week later I had it sitting in my garage.

2nd:

Pepsi 81- Friend of mine brought one from California to try to sell for a friend.  I was lucky enough to sell a few machines to pony up the dough.  Did a quick rerefurbishment and enjoying it AS IS for now.

This was the first year since I joined the site in 2008 that I didn't buy a machine...spent it living with the in-laws stashing away some money to buy the house I just moved into.  Had to keep it small but the $30 Squirt Progress cooler and the large door Vendo coin door and mech off the table at a swap meet were my best buys.

Just got the garage cleaned out of boxes and it's looking mighty empty, here's to a productive 2014!

When you say "find", does it have to be one that you actually procured for yourself, or can it be just any machine you've located along the way, regardless of whether you wanted it or not? Didn't have an overly successful year as far as particular wants go.

The CS-72 for $400 OBO was a good candidate, particularly if it worked. I can't remember whether it did.

http://soda-machines.com/discussions/index.php/topic,18428.0.html

There were a couple of working USS-64's at good prices during the late spring and early summer, but I wasn't able to capitalize on either of those.  down

The "First Coke machine at Wrigley Field"* or whatever it was- not really a great find, but certainly an unusual one.  biggrin

*For the uninitiated, this was the hull of a Ideal or Glasco slider rigged up on a cart to pass for a soda fountain like device.

If we are doing best "finds"... And not best "buys" ... Slapshot, post a pic of your $25 Ideal Hires slider and my dream Seeburg for me!!! My best "finds", just not purchases!

There was an $800 Vendo milk machine.... But I'll leave that one alone!

This is my best deal of 2013. It's a '58 Chrysler so I'll have this to go with my Cavalier 64 and my CGD. All I have to do now is spend alot of time and money to get them looking good again.

My favorite pic of 2013 is an original unchopped 1932 5 window Ford .  Now I have a pair of "deuces" in the garage.

A lot of nice finds listed here so I thought I would jump in.  I did not buy much this year but my Stoner 120 with Gum Wheel is probably the best find of 2013 for me.  This is the second one in my collection and probably my favorite!

This one was one of my favorite ones this year; it was free & it takes up a lot less room than a machine.  I found it in an old building in downtown Boston.  Packaging was definitely a little different back then.

I'm a little late but here are some pics of what I bought and kept in 2013. Some other things that I bought and sold were a Cavalier C51, Westinghouse WE-6, another Vendo 39, a 14ft porcelain Sinclair sign.  As for 2014, I just picked up a little Wayne 90 gas pump. I need a bigger garage / more storage..

As for my favorite, I would go with the original Westinghouse Junior that I found in a local antique shop.

I think the pump was originally a marathon mile-maker as they are the only ones I seen that were solid porcelain.  I just liked the looks of the Mohawk globe so I put it on it.  If you ever want to check out all the globes available, just visit gaspumpheaven.com or vic66.com.  This is usually where I get pump parts.

I've seen porcelain pumps in Flying A, Cities Service, pure, and several that were just plain white or red.

I made a trade for this SQ top 7up.....It's a work in progress right now.....My idea is to clean up the outside as much as possible and then put a flat clear coat on it... I guess I'll hammertone the inside and take it to the hotrod shows to try to sell it.

There was a Napa Brand rust inhibitor at NAPA when I bought it at appeared to be just like rust-mort, but since rust-more put the R&D into the product, I bought the real deal. If you can't make a buck, how are you going to put out the next great product?

I was reading about Rustmort a bit more, and it says it turns the rust to Black and hardens so you can body fill or paint over it?

I would think you want it to turn white?  also how does it affect the rest of the paint?

I have a nice original 81b that has some surface rust that I'd like to try it on, but don't want to ruin the original paint?

It works great on the white because it also has a bleaching effect. I has some spillage onto the red and it left streaks. I didn't notice, so it really started to soften the red paint and lifted a little..... Clearly operator error, not the product.

Pure nasty rust is a solid brown and that is what hardens and turns black. The white on most Coke machines is only surface rust.

Klean-Strip 1-gal. Phosphoric Prep and Etch $15.95  I have only used it on a few spots and so far it works very well straight out of the bottle. Got it at Homedepot but only a few of the stores in my area carry it. From the research I did this was the best option I could come up with.

Also a little late.. I started out wanting a EM pinball but quickly got priced out of the market, then I found this shuffle bowler that I got for $250.  It's in pretty good shape and almost everything works now... just have a few more tweaks to go. The owner said it was in his basement when he brought his house 30 years ago!
