Thought I'd drop a note for those of you who are interested, a hobby turned into a bad habit! I'm now set up to repair Coinco Electronic coinmechs, specifically the CoinCo S-75-9800 A/B series including 24-volt models & earlier 9800/A "conversions" I've entered my Name into the "restorers" listing... :'> , after seeing my bench testing setup & repair station for my Coinmech's, my younger brother suggested that I might "hang a shingle" out for those of you in need of repairs, so hey, why not, I said? drop me a line if you have a "sick" Coinco 9800 series mech. I might be able to help...thanks, & we'll leave "the bench light on for you"

Quote (loman4ec @ Jan. 24 2005,12:05) | How much for a repair? I have 7 or 8 inop coin mechs laying around. | It, really depends whats defective on them, but I'd estimate a flat $20.00/per 'mech. +parts,& shipping both ways. (shipping is less than $10 roundtrip, per 'mech. from what UPS charges/ground +your Box) the 'mechs must be completed, (Or, if just the electronic/main body isn't working, you can ship it to me minus the slug rejector, if it's missing.) inoperable OR you can ship me the lot, & I'll repair as many as are fixable, using your defective unrepairable 'mechs as "organ-doners"
I'll tear them down, see what's repairable, clean the coin-paths & adjust the switches, and check for correct coin/pricing acception & change function.
Be aware that 'mechs are from the wonderful world of vending machines & were quite often "jury-riged" to accept all coins and/or bottlecaps, (so the vending tech won't have a call-back) & many slug rejectors as I've seen many of them are quite butchered & duct-taped back together, I can test your 'mechs with my own good slug rejectors, but you should really include them when you ship the units to me..
so lets see what you got... :'>

johnieG, A quick question... I got a CoinCo S-75-9800 on eBay a couple weeks ago. I have had it running for about 10 days and It works beautifully. But here's the thing: It smells very smoky. Almost like cigar smoke, but if it were just that, it would have aired out by now. Do they all smell smoky? Do you think I have a defective/dangerous coin mech? Should I be concerned? Thanks,

Hopefully it's just a ligering odor from a smoky break room machine! ( worst-case scenario would be a hot power supply Zener diode get ready to blow) A Lot of the Coinmech I have came out of some good old GM/Chevy/Buick factory's you ought to get a "whiff" of them! they smell like an ashtray! & are flithy inside with soot & crud, but if they are completely disasembled & cleaned the majority of the odor leaves with the "crud". hope this helps you out... "Repaired" would be a better word, I can usally get a Mech up & running in about 4 days + shipping time. ( providing the circut board isn't a total piece of burnt toast & it's otherwise complete, ie;not missing parts off of the slug-rejector/and or its case,) as I have a limited supply of replacement parts, remember, these are obsolete 20+ year old units & coinco doesn't offer any support for them , let alone parts.

John I need some time to save some money but I am interested in sending you some of my mechs. I think they are all complete, but I know that some will be beyond repair so what isn't able to be fixed you can keep for spare parts. I am going to be sending the rest of your parts for the Vendo 56 out in an hour or so.
