Thought I'd drop a note for those of you who are interested, a hobby turned into a bad habit! I'm now set up to repair Coinco Electronic coinmechs, specifically the CoinCo S-75-9800 A/B series including 24-volt models & earlier 9800/A "conversions" I've entered my Name into the "restorers" listing... :'> , after seeing my bench testing setup & repair station for my Coinmech's, my younger brother suggested that I might "hang a shingle" out for those of you in need of repairs, so hey, why not, I said? drop me a line if you have a "sick" Coinco 9800 series mech. I might be able to help...thanks, & we'll leave "the bench light on for you"

Quote (loman4ec @ Jan. 24 2005,12:05) | How much for a repair? I have 7 or 8 inop coin mechs laying around. | It, really depends whats defective on them, but I'd estimate a flat $20.00/per 'mech. +parts,& shipping both ways. (shipping is less than $10 roundtrip, per 'mech. from what UPS charges/ground +your Box) the 'mechs must be completed, (Or, if just the electronic/main body isn't working, you can ship it to me minus the slug rejector, if it's missing.) inoperable OR you can ship me the lot, & I'll repair as many as are fixable, using your defective unrepairable 'mechs as "organ-doners"
I'll tear them down, see what's repairable, clean the coin-paths & adjust the switches, and check for correct coin/pricing acception & change function.
Be aware that 'mechs are from the wonderful world of vending machines & were quite often "jury-riged" to accept all coins and/or bottlecaps, (so the vending tech won't have a call-back) & many slug rejectors as I've seen many of them are quite butchered & duct-taped back together, I can test your 'mechs with my own good slug rejectors, but you should really include them when you ship the units to me..
so lets see what you got... :'>

johnieG, A quick question... I got a CoinCo S-75-9800 on eBay a couple weeks ago. I have had it running for about 10 days and It works beautifully. But here's the thing: It smells very smoky. Almost like cigar smoke, but if it were just that, it would have aired out by now. Do they all smell smoky? Do you think I have a defective/dangerous coin mech? Should I be concerned? Thanks,

Hopefully it's just a ligering odor from a smoky break room machine! ( worst-case scenario would be a hot power supply Zener diode get ready to blow) A Lot of the Coinmech I have came out of some good old GM/Chevy/Buick factory's you ought to get a "whiff" of them! they smell like an ashtray! & are flithy inside with soot & crud, but if they are completely disasembled & cleaned the majority of the odor leaves with the "crud". hope this helps you out... "Repaired" would be a better word, I can usally get a Mech up & running in about 4 days + shipping time. ( providing the circut board isn't a total piece of burnt toast & it's otherwise complete, ie;not missing parts off of the slug-rejector/and or its case,) as I have a limited supply of replacement parts, remember, these are obsolete 20+ year old units & coinco doesn't offer any support for them , let alone parts.

John I need some time to save some money but I am interested in sending you some of my mechs. I think they are all complete, but I know that some will be beyond repair so what isn't able to be fixed you can keep for spare parts. I am going to be sending the rest of your parts for the Vendo 56 out in an hour or so.

Johnie, do you have enough of your own mech.s to offer an exchange service? If I send you a complete servicable mech, I really don't care if that's the one I get back.

Hmm, I haven't considered an exchange program yet, something we could possibly work out, ( it would depend on the condition of the mechs sent to me) I've gone through a box of swap-meet mech's I picked up over the last weekend & So far I've got Three Coinco S-75-9800/A models, & Two Coinco S-75-9800/B models ready to go, I also have an S75-9400/A (simular to the S75-9800/A series, able to be set for 5-cents up to & 75-cents/Vend,but it gives back Dimes & Nickles as change) & a couple of die-cast metal Coinco's too.
Oh! and I'm now setup with Paypal, (Yes it's a pain, but also a convenience for many, the value for me is it cuts down on "pay-day" delay in shipping out Items back to the customer.
If you like I can evaluate the condition of your mechs first & we can go from there....

Did you create your own troubleshooting board or did you find one of the old 9800 series bench testers? I've been looking forever to find one in order to repair my own mechs!

I've got the bench tester ( had to pry it out of the cold dead hands of a local vending tech...so to speak ) & I've pretty much reverse-engineered the circut boards & have a working schematic of the little buggers...

it depends on what's wrong with, them, but usually about 4-5 business days. go over them & make sure they are complete, if some of them are not , you may wish to send them along as "organ-doners"
I find the hardest thing to repair ( due to lack of replacement parts) are burned out CREMS ( I usually just have to remove & bypass them) & busted coin switches (when the "whisker" wire that detects the coin passing by is broken off) not to mention changer motors that are jammed & broken....
as for the Vari-price, you can send it along with the others & I can have a look-see at it, but I only have 2 units in the "bone-yard" so I can't promise anything, but hey, it won't hurt to have a look! :'>

Hello
I wrote this last night & then went back to reveiw the whole thread.
I think the Vari-price is just going in the trash or I could donate it to the boneyard for others. I will test my three new ones when they arrive & then send a few for rehab.
