What about a auto headlight restoration kit? They are basically just the 1500-2000 grit sandpaper, followed by a light plastic buffing compound.

Tough one for sure. The 1000 will probably do it but see if you can find a small area to check it out first. I have used toothpaste to clear up aged plastic when I was in the street rod building biz but don't think that will work well on your issue. Rubbing compound is another good choice but I wouldn't use a buffer unless you have a lot of time on one. Good luck.

It's a 2 step process.
Disolve that relatively soft housepaint with a solvent. Let the chemical do the work rather than rub too hard.
Buff the plastic to desired shine.
