SelVend SS-64 7 up machine

Hello, everyone.  I'm new here but have been lurking for a few weeks to learn.  Great forum.

I just recently purchased my SelVend and love it.  If anyone has any info they can share, it would be greatly appreciated.  There's not a lot of info out there on SelVend that I've been able to find.

I just replaced the main door seal last night but other than that it appears all original.  The thing cools down to 30 degrees on the "1" setting on the thermostat.  Pretty happy with that.

I am missing 6 of the 8 shelves and the main door latch if anyone can help me with that.

SV is my favorite square top builder. Very stout machines. I'd give it a good wipe down with warm water and and couple of micro fiber towels.

Be very careful around the SV badge. They are plastic and the wings can and will snap off. No reproduction for that yet.

Finding original shelves could very well take a long time. That said hopefully a set turns up on eBay soon.

I would just find the best metal fabrication guy in town and have him make a full set.

Get me the screw hole to SH measurements on the missing latch. My SV's have different latch sizes but they appear to be generic latches. Won't be hard to get that sorted.

Best approach with machines that the survivor rate is low, get it working best you can with no damage to the original shell. Stock it with what everyone else likes. Chase the needed original parts as time money permits.

RayG, thanks for the welcome!  You're already correct, sir.  I picked up a Duncan 60 parking meter that is fully functional that I'm going to mount outside by my parking area.  Photos coming soon!

Creighton, thanks also.  I did indeed clean up that unit and it works great.  I have a very good prototype/sheet metal guy fabricating some shelves for me.  They should look totally stock when he gets finished.

I'll take some photos of the missing latch area with measurements here soon.  Maybe you can help me with finding the latch or maybe you have one?

Creighton, as an after thought, how many SelVends do you have?

Do you have photos available to share?  I'm starting to ponder on a paint scheme and would really appreciate some ideas/examples.

Question of the day guys:  My plastic 7 up sign has dots of paint/overspray on it.  I've tried to clean it up with hot soapy water and a non scratch scotchbrite pad.  Not much luck with that.  The paint can be removed by scraping with a knife edge, but this leaves a dull area after scraping.

My thought is maybe to use 1000-2000 grit wet dry sandpaper and perhaps buff it after.

Any other good ideas out there as to how to accomplish the paint removal?  Buffing compound?  Goo gone says it could interact with plastics.........

If it is latex paint, then rubbing alcohol will remove it. Not sure how that would be on the plastic though? Go slow!

What about a auto headlight restoration kit?  They are basically just the 1500-2000 grit sandpaper, followed by a light plastic buffing compound.

Tough one for sure. The 1000 will probably do it but see if you can find a small area to check it out first. I have used toothpaste to clear up aged plastic when I was in the street rod building biz but don't think that will work well on your issue. Rubbing compound is another good choice but I wouldn't use a buffer unless you have a lot of time on one. Good luck.

       It's a 2 step process.
       Disolve that relatively soft housepaint with a solvent. Let the chemical do the work rather than rub too hard.
       Buff the plastic to desired shine.
