I see some Vendo 39's have the back plate that protecting the cooling system and some that don't.
Also see pic below of picture of wire shelf keeping bottles off the bottom.... is this original or custom?
Was this an option? Or was this something added by a distributor?
Thanks for letting me pick your brains.

I think the covers were also designed to keep the machines about 3 inches from the wall for better air flow for the condenser deck.

Thanks - Also.. Does anyone know if these machines ever came with a wire piece to have the bottles in the precool section not sit directly on the pan?

You state in your auction that the embossed Ice Cold and that the rear cover are very rare but infact that is very common, Ive restored and owned countless Vendo 39s all but a few had the embossed Ice cold on the lower front door, and alot have had the rear cover. Not rare at all remember over 80,000 Vendo 39s were built.

Since the "Ice Cold" was on only the first generation, that's why i put it as such, as it's rarer to come across from what I've been told then the 2nd and 3rd generation... If I'm wrong, I'll fix it though.

I's all about what peoples perception is of rare.... According to cola machines.com it's in the middle with 3 out of 5 stars, therefore more rare then 50% of the machines out there(or so is my take). And since it has the piece on the back, it would make it slightly rarer as not all the 1st generation were made with these from my understanding) However since you feel it is inaccurate, I'll remove it once I'm allowed to edit the auction.

I have to concur with with bcharlton on the reason for the back panel. The 39 has a version of its compressor that does not utilize a condensor fan. It gets rid of the heat through convection which relies on the heat rising out the back panel to disperse from the machine. The back cover simply prevents the machine from being pushed all the way up against the wall and effectively blocking the airflow through the condenser coil. I would not consider it an option as much as just a component of the machine. I think it was removed alot of time by people over the years but I don't see it as a value add. Just don't push it up against the wall. Kind of like the coin mech heater coil. Most people here remove them because they don't add functionality to the machine, but if one still has it, I would not consider it a feaature.
