Hey all
Just thought I would ask this question, as I'm thinking of pulling the plug on yet another machine (I have to sell my jacobs though as the wife wont let me get another one Shocked(

Im looking at getting a machine (let's just say that it's a Vendo)  I found one locally that has been "restored" which means refurbished in our world.  The insides were left original, and just the outside was repainted, re lettered (very well I might ad) and typical stickers (of which I hate, the large 10c decal, and the sprite boy decal)

YET I'm also looking at the same model machine, in it's original state, where it still cools and vends, but, it is original.  It has very slight rust, but with all the nicks and scratches one would expect of a 50's roundtop machine.

I got BOTH guys down to the same price, and now it's a decision that I have to make on which way to go?

DO I go with a machine that LOOKS good from the outside, but is NOT original, OR take the machine that is original, and presents ok as is.

What do you all think?

(NOTE:  I know that most here will say go with the original, but Im asking the question becaue the refurbised one does look REALLY nice from the outside, other than the fact that it has decals that are not to my liking.)  And in my collection, I have originals, refurbised, and fully restored machines.  NONE of which I tend to use)

Any insight is nice

If those decals could be removed.......would it help you make a decision?
Vinyl or water release should come off clean, if they haven't been on there too long or clearcoated over.

I have the same dilemma with 2 machines.  They are both remarkable originals.  I have decided not to restore them due to my wife's advise.  I would prefer them to look like everything else I own.  They are a Vendo 39 and a Jacobs 56 Pepsi.

I am honoring my wife's request to keep the peace.  I have bought 10 new pieces this year for my collection and she has not divorced me yet.

That's a tough one.. What you have to keep in mind is that a machine is rarely an original machine.
They were there to earn a crust for someone and have been chopped and changed over the years.

I have 70 plus wall candy machines. Some original and some restored. Even the originals have had coin mechs altered
or different covers/backs where something went wrong on site and the route operator didn't care about originality
they just wanted the thing working again to earn the money.. New decals placed over old when prices went up etc..

Can you live with the rust? Is it on display in the living room next to a piece of furniture or are you intending to use
it in a concealed area. How does the wife feel about it?

Only you will know what you are most comfortable with...

Don't buy the original to then decide you are going to restore it....

Hi Bonovox...

Sent you a PM.  I've been in contact last week with maybe both of the sellers of the 2 machines you are looking at.

We don't need a bidding war on these 2 babies...LOL.

Please email or PM me to discuss.

Thanks.
