I agree.  You can get them in great shape for around $400.  That may be the best bang for your buck in "coin ops"

I finished adjusting my scale and it was very easy. You must ensure that the pinion is inline with the fourth tooth from the bottom on the pinion rack. Ensure the weight scale lock(see weight lock pic white arrow) is open and loosen the set screw(see adjustment pic red arrow) and use the adjustment screw(adjustment pic blue arrow) to adjust then tighten the set screw back. That's it. See pics below.
