I just bought this scale at an auction. It is great condition it just needs the fortune knob and adjusting. It was restored a couple of years ago and I might have paid too much for it but it was cool and the other guy was not going to outbid me. I paid $400.  Let me know what you think. |

That looks super clean.  I haven't been looking at prices recently, but if you are happy at 400.00 you did ok.  I have a Watling Tom Thumb Jr.  I paid 350.00 for it years ago.

Looks great, I don't think you over paid.  Probably won't find another one in display ready condition for that.  Condition is everthing.    |

I've been looking for a penny scale for a while too and to find one in that kind of condition, I don't see how you could go wrong.  If you paid less for one in poorer condition, it would cost you more than that to redo it so I think you came out great.  How long would you have to wait to find another one in that nice of condition?  Congratulations on a great looking scale.  What kind of shape is it in internally?  If you have any pics of the inside I would love to see them. |

Chris, Thanks for posting this info.  I have an American Scale Mfg. penny scale with fortune and it needs a slight adjustment.  I am going to shoot the guy an email and see if he has info on my scale.  I also need one of the chrome trim pieces for the front.    Tim |

Nice scale.  It might be too late to tell you but don't lay it on it's back.  There is a container of oil in the scale used for cushioning the innards when you step off the scale.  I tilted mine and got oil everywhere.  I had cardboard in the car but the scale was a pain to clean.  Oil still shows up in the coin box.
By the way $400.00 is a good price if you don't have to do any sort of restoration.  ILIKECOINOP was correct.  Also, shipping is a killer so if you have it locally, it's a win, win situation.

That guy Bill is very knowledgable and he is willing to help anyone.  A very cool guy.

I wanted the mint green scale without the mirror and with the questions, not sure what the Watling name is, but I found a Horoscope model nearby, that was also in awesome shape, so I bought that one instead.

I emailed Bill on Saturday and I received the enveploe yesterday. It had a nice breakdown and price list and pics with instructions on how to adjust and zero out the scale. I haven't tried the instructions yet, but that was a quick response from Bill. I'll let you guys know how the adjustments come out and how easy it was. |

I agree.  You can get them in great shape for around $400.  That may be the best bang for your buck in "coin ops"

I finished adjusting my scale and it was very easy. You must ensure that the pinion is inline with the fourth tooth from the bottom on the pinion rack. Ensure the weight scale lock(see weight lock pic white arrow) is open and loosen the set screw(see adjustment pic red arrow) and use the adjustment screw(adjustment pic blue arrow) to adjust then tighten the set screw back. That's it. See pics below. |
