I recently bought a 3 in One for this compressor, but the Start Run and COmon are different connectors and in different location than the other style compressors I've seen... can anyone tell me which ones are which on this configuration and also how to attach them?
Thanks
John

Do have a brand name/model number of the compressor? If it is an old Tecumseh the upper left terminal is the common, the lower left is the run terminal and the right terminal is the start according the some old literature that I have.

Her's the Tecumseh pinout guide that's pinned to the top of his discussion board area. http://soda-machines.com/discussions/index.php/topic,7831.0.htmlBut in general, the terminal with the copper strap from the clickit/overload protector is common, put your one ohm-meter lead on this terminal & touch the other two, the highest reading is the start winding & the remaining is the run winding. ( with the wires removed from the terminals so you don't get a false reading) also worth noting is that the condenser fans motor is usually wired across the common terminal & the run terminal. ( so it turns on & off with the compressor)

OK, I'm going to show my Ignorance and Stupidity when it comes to the compressors... My configuration does not match the drawing.. If the one with copper strap is Common The one directly below it is ____________ and the one to the right is ____________
I guess I don't speak the same language when it says Left to right , top to bottom?
also how do I attach the leads of the 3in 1 to the compressor posts as they are not the slide on type like in other compressors..
Thanks John

there is no way to tell for sure which is which without an ohm-meter to measure the electricals windings.
resistance. but as I said before, if you follow the cooling fans motors wires back into where they connect to the terminals, one will be on the common terminal, typically it's the same point as the copper strap ( this is were the black wire marked "common" of the 3-in1 goes) & the other will be on the "run" winding, ( this is were the red wire of the 3-in-1 goes) the remaining terminal is then the start terminal, ( the white wire on the 3-in1 attaches here)

John, What compressor from what model machine is it from? I have this diagram, but I have others too if I knew what models we are talking about. As far as connecting, couldn't you install ring terminals in place of the push-on connectors?

So I believe the one on the lower left is run/red and the one on the upper left is start/white. If you hook them up this way and the compressor doesn't start, then reverse them, at least that's what I do.
The leads on the 3 in 1 are for the pin style comp. so you will cut them and crimp on ring terminals as Tom stated. But you might want to cut them a little long so you can save those terminals as other compressors may have broken ones.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate it.. To answer the questions, the compressor is out of a Vendo 81D, but of course its' hard to determine if it's original,, but I believe it is.. Tom, that drawing is exactly what i have on this unit.. so if that is accurate, which I'm sure it is.. we'll try that ..
I figured I'd have to cut the wires and install some rings to attach them.. and I'll follow the suggestions as directed.
I guess I've been lucky as I havent' had a bad compressor for some time now and my local refridgeration guy is good for check and charging systems but was clueless on this part..
off to the shop to try it out..
Thanks!

I've got a chart that lists the pin-outs for many different manufacturers. However, if I size it down to fit on here, you probably won't be able to read it. If you'd like a copy, PM me with your email address and I will gladly send it on. Jim, I could also send it to you if you'd like to post it.
