Thats is sharp.. Question if you don't mind.. how hard is it to take these buggers apart? I guess I thought they where welded closed? and I've had inquiries to restore some for people, but have never done so? just wondering if they are a bear to get open and old insulation out etc? Thanks Looks great!

Excellent question John. I have two coke coolers in need of work, but keep pushing them back on the restore list

The inner liner is crimped onto the outer shell. you have to get under the edge were the rolled edge of the outer shell meets the crimped edge & run along the length with a chisel or similar tool, to reseat it, you need a roller seam ( looks like a big hand-turned can opener, but with smooth rollers)

Cool, thanks for the diagram,, doesn't look as bad as I thought. SO is it just insulation on the inside? I had always worried it was packed in there with tar like on so many of the coolers and fountains I've taken apart... Looks pretty simple. .may have to take on a few cooler projects...
Thanks very much for the info!

Yes thanks Johnnie, What do you do about the drain tube when removing the liner? Aren't they soldered to the liner?

They have Insulation is along the sides & some have fiberboard/celutex style insulation on the bottom, on mine, the drain tube was just has a retaining nut on the outside & a thin rubber gasket on the inside. but if the nut is corroded onto the drains shaft, it's quite east to snap the dang tube in half. or it will spin & not let go of the nut, earlier models had drain tubes made of cast-aluminum, so easy does it, ( later models had machined aluminum drains) some drain tubes are steel & you can get a pair of vice-grip pliers on the inside edge to keep the tube from spinning while the nut it removed on the outside of the cooler.
