Hey guys this is my first post so go easy on me. So I purchased a Vendo 39 and got the original cooling system to work. Then one day started leaking a blue fluid (I'm assuming freon) out of the condenser. The condenser was rusted out pretty bad so I know I need to replace it. However I have no idea where to go from here, Ive seen new systems run for $700 or company's offering repair. I'd like to learn how to do this myself if its something I want to mess with? Can I buy just a new condenser, or can I build a new system for it from general parts? I really have no idea what to do and would like to do it on a budget. Thanks

It's mineral oil you're looking at & at this point there is no freon in the system to speak of, although you could braise a new condensor coil assembly on yourself, you'd have to flush & recharge the system, install a new filter/dryer etc. not a task for the newbie... all this assuming the compressor still runs...  if you're in michigan I can rebuild it for you, if not, try global compressors in TX.  unless someone has an original/used whole refrigeration deck assy to sell you...

Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes.
Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon!
The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p
Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor

"Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

Everything works except for it leaking out the condenser. Sounds like its gonna be $700 after all, would you just replace the unit or have it rebuilt?

I live in Colorado and as to my knowledge isn't any repair shops like Global Compressors in my neck of the woods. I thought about talking to fridge shop about this but wasn't sure if they could help or not.

There is this guy in Denver. Never personally seen his work, but you might check with him. As with any unknown, go in knowing what you want and be specific (ie. done the right [correct] way with no shortcuts). If you have any reservations, walk away! Eric an GC does great work and you can always send it to him.

Yea I had talked to Jim at Antique Vend about this and he said he has all of his refrigeration work done by his "fridge guy". I asked him for this guys number and didn't want to give it to me seaming like this guy was a secret he didn't want me to know about. So I guess I'll give GC a call, however anyone every use the Soda Jerk or FunTronics for their refrigeration repair?

He probably didn't want to give out the guy's number so you wouldn't call the guy direct and knock him out of the commission for subbing out the work.

You cannot go wrong with Eric at Global.  He is great to deal with.

I believe that Funtronics uses Alan Huffman and I think he only charges around 400? plus shipping.. you may want to check with him as well.

Eric,
I've installed new fans, rewired and repainted the unit so all I would need done is either repair or replace the condenser and the system recharged. What would this run me?
