As usual I was cruising around Craigslist and stumbled upon a listing for an old pop machine. At first glance (a really poor one at that!) it looked like a ragged-out Vendo 110 that had been painted black. I didn't pay close attention and went on to another listing. I came back to it again and took another look.

Boy, I need to get my eyes checked!! After the second look I noticed that it wasn't a Coca-Cola machine at all, it was a Pepsi machine! Duh! I looked closer and noticed a large coin door with a handle sticking out! Turns out it was a VMC 110 Pepsi machine complete with a 5 cent change-giving mech listed for $300 and only 40 minutes away from me!!!  biggrin

I called the guy up and talke with him for a bit about it and told him that I'd like to come out and take a look at it. This afternoon after work we load up the entire family and headed out. Got to the guy's house and he led me down into the below-ground garage where the machine was. For how it's been kept, it's in suprisingly good condition. It's missing all of the shelves but 3 and the locks are keyless. The main door had been popped open but the coin door was latched (not for long!) He told me that a guy that knew that had owned a bar in town used to own the machine and it sat outside serving the public for many years until he finnaly decided to get rid of it. He offered up to the guy, I assume for free, and he took it home with the intent of fixing it up.

I ended up getting the machine for $260! Here are a couple of the original pictures from Craigslist. When I get a chance, I'll post some of the pic's I took.

You are on a Pepsi roll!
Congrats!
FYI - It won't compare to the 81 though and you won't like moving it around as you get older!

WOW,you are on a Pepsi Roll for sure... Lets see what's next, you'll probably pick up a Jacobs 56 Pepsi light up for 350, then an embossed Pepsi VMC 33D, and maybe you'll unearth a super super rare, one of a kind Pepsi Decapper?
Great score and congrats!

Yeah, A Pepsi roll is right! Like I said before I'm just happy that I have the parts I need for the 81. Incidentally, my 12 y.o. daughter asked me if I was going to restore this one and when I replied "probably not" she wanted to know why......

That statement actually makes it more difficult for me to scavenge what I need off of it and part out the rest!  biggrin

I second Pat's words...restore it!  It's a nice, complete Pepsi 110.  I'd love to get my hands on one of those!  The parts for your 81 are out there and will find their way to you soon enough, I'm sure.

Besides, can't break your daughter's heart!  I know, I have 3 of them!  My oldest is still waiting for me to get her the Milk Machine she wants...just trying to save up!

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys! I also found out today that there isn't anything wrong with the refrigeration system! it was only on it's back for about 2 hours total but I waited until I got home today to plug it in to op test the deck. The compressor fired right up and I listened for any strange noises and heard none. I also moticed that the evaporator fan wasn't turning. I reached back behind and manually rotated the blades and the fan broke free. Apparently a mouse or something else had made a nest inside behind the evaporator which resulted in the fan blades being blocked. After it broke free the cool air flowed freely!!

It's always nice to find out that things aren't as bad as reported!  laugh
