Hi Guys
My jacobs is coming on great guns... Have been playing around with the vending side.
Have managed to get the machine to vend the plastic bottles of pepsi ok...
The coin mech was working fine. It accepts all coins and gives the correct change.
I have just noticed a hum coming from the mech. Its not loud but it is a little irrating. It only occurs when the machine has product in it.... Ie the switch that the bottle rests against is closed. When all the product has dispensed the hum stops. Also noticed some blackening to the case..
Any ideas....?

Off the top of my head, I would say it is one of the CREMs Why would you run the machine empty anyway?  Just keep it full and it won't make a sound. |

Right...
Managed to get the camera to work... Have removed the slug rejector and taken picture of the inards.
That brown long thingy is very hot and there is evidence of black smoke on the metal and a couple of the wires look like they have been scorched...
Help....!

Sorry its the other way around.... Makes the hum when the machine has product in it and then goes quiet after the product has all been dispensed.... Have added a couple of pictures in above post...

Yep its a CREM. Thats the little electromagnets under the slug rejector. Basically all that they do is stop the coin mech from accepting coins when it is empty or turned off. I had a mech like that once. It worked great but made a lot of noise. I just removed the fingers from it and it silenced it. Since it is not on a vending route your are not worried about taking anyones money so who cares if it is there or not. Just my two cents.

Sounds like it is one of the CREMs (see pic)
I agree with Josh - just remove the armatures.
You can always re-install them if you go to sell it.

Thanks for the adivce...
How about the backening?? And the heat from the brown sausage thingy... Is that normal??
Plse excuse my ignorance but the four other machines have all been manual cranking...
I'll post some pictures of the Jacobs as soon as I get the compressor back in... Should hopefully be this week.
Just when I think I have got there something else happens. Now the compressor fandoesn't work..
Will order one of them later when everyone in the US is up and about...

My guess is that electronics get hot and that machine has 50+ years of use from it. I would say if it works its Ok. I have pulled several s75-9800's off and they are black behind it from smoke but they still work great.

That Brown Thing is the heater resistor, it isn't necessary for hobby machine, it was used back in the day to keep the coinmech warm for outdoors/winter use & help keep condensation out of the coinmech on humid days with cold nights, you can leave it, or you may cut off the wire leads & wire/nut insulate them & lay them asside. besides getting hot enough to burn your fingers. it's just consuming electricity for no good reason anymore. PS..... do this with the power off, as the resister is fed by line voltage..  |
