How does one prepare a part to be re-chromed? Do I sandblast it? After I prepare it, who can I get to refinish it, reasonably? Thanks

Dennis,
I usually leave that up to the re-plater; they usually strip the old chrome off. Here's an old topic for a shop to rechrome parts:

Hi, This link to chrome contacts does not work.
I have 2 top bezels and 2 coin return chutes for my Ideal 55 Highboy that need to be rechromed.
They have the usual pitting, I am looking for a place that can resurface the parts and re-chrome them for me.

I have a friend who was collecting embossed sliders.
He had all the chrome done in advance then decided to abandon the hobby. He only wants to recover his plating cost.
We were discussing an exchange program where you could send us your complete unchromed coin mech cover and we exchange it with the identical style painted and assembled, OR.......remove all your parts, hinges etc. and we exchange them all.
Let me know of any interest and we can calculate pricing.

I ended up having 4 of my coin mechanism pieces re-plated at an outfit in Colorado.
They are one of a handful of companies left in the country that re-plates pot metal.
They are called Quality Plating and they are located in Yuma, CO.
They did an amazing job refinishing the chrome pieces for two of my Ideal 55 coin mechanisms-and charged me a mere $60 a piece for the top bezels on my coin mech!
I shipped the pieces to them, and they shipped them back priority mail.

Just got some parts back from New England Chrome Plating in East Hartford, CT. They did a great job and are real nice people to deal with. It's a small, busy shop, so you may have to wait a bit, but I think the results were worth it. They also do pot metal, stainless polishing etc. 4 stars
