I need help with my Ideal A55 pepsi soda box. What is the correct refrigerant compressor and hi and low pressure and how much oil.
My machine has a copeland 1/4 hp compressor , i think this is incorrect, machine will only cool down to about 50 degrees inside of the box.
Any help would be appreciated.

thanks for all the comments.
the Ideal 55 box was restored to like new condition and the 0riginal compressor was damaged and the restorer company took the box to an so called professional ref. shop and they installed a new Copeland 1/4 hp compressor unit. It looks really great and the line going to the box is cold and the hi side line is hot, the compressor is warm and runs normal.
since I left it on overnite it will cool down to about 40 degrees. what can I do to get it colder inside the box. what pressures should I look for at the low and hi side and how much Freon is correct.
they used Freon 134a in this Copeland unit.

Sooooo basically (jokingly) I can assume from this "poll" that....  laugh

A: It's not working. (see "C" below)
B: You have no clue as to why it's not working after the line was broken,
or the charging port valve was opened ( see "D" below)
C: And you have a puddle of oil on the floor (check "E" below)
D: There is low pressure because the freon has leaked out ( see "C" above)
E: if not "D" then go to "A"

You want an 1/8 hp low temp compressor. You don't have to worry about the oil as it if already filled. My question is if a 1/4 hp exists now was just the compressor changed of the whole condensing unit? If you can provide a pic of the compressor I help you with figuring out what you need. I provided a link for the model compressor you will need. Do not pay attention to the pic of compressor the site uses the same pic for all compressors.

If a slider gets a bigger compressor, the capillary tube must also be changed as it will require a different diameter and length.

laugh  Sorry Dave (and regards to the newbie) all I can envision is a pile of parts in an oil puddle in the middle of the floor, and the poor guy scratching his head wondering what, were and when it all went south.

I disagree with the pick of a low temperature model, this is a medium temp application, I'd also agree to say that out of the box, a 1/4HP unit is too large without the adjustment to the capillary size as mentioned.  ( you'll flood the evaporator coils & get liquid refrigerant back to the suction valve and damage the compressor)

also keep in mind that Sliders, be they Ideal or Glasco, have a problem keeping there evaporator coils in contact with their tank walls, as they fall away from inside of the tank wall, [but are held in close proximity to the tank by the insulation], they the can't exchange heat efficiently, so the box temp goes up, the compressor long cycles (runs forever it seems) & the suction line frosts back to the compressor.

But hey! Nothing that a hammer, a shot of freon and a spray can of semi-gloss black paint can't fix.   tounge

I don't think those "Chicken McNuggets" are actually made of chicken. I'm not even overly confident they're really "McNuggets".  Oo
