I'm still working on him..  what have those been going for if anyone seen one?

Last one I heard of sold for $2200 a year ago. It needed restoring.

I'd love to get my hands on a Dads so I would have all the rootbeer sliders. Might take a few years or be a nice pipe dream.

Collecting Ideal Sliders

« Reply #13 on: October 11, 2013, 08:03:35 pm »

I also have an unrestored embossed Hires in very good condition. Good southwest machine. Great restoration candidate. Was next on the list until the Orange Crush arrived. Will sell or trade.

Ok, I need help.  I have 3 sliders in my warehouse for almost 10 years and I wait patiently for the slider bug to bite me. I just don't get it but I'm keeping an open mind. What is the attraction?  They look a little "squatty" and boxy.  Is it the sliding mechanism that creates excitement?  Please, Bob, no disrespect intended but I am feeling a little left out that I don't get it

Signed, trying to get that "slider" feeling

Personally I like the fact that they embossed so many flavors...

You won't find that many in the uprights!

I agree with Jared, I like that there is a variety of embossed brands out there and the fact that most are fairly inexpensive compared to many of the uprights and don't cost a lot to restore. Another nice thing is the simplicity of the vend mech. The only draw back is the refrigeration system is not as easy to work on as the uprights.

Also the fact that they vend 5 selections of beer or pop and have a huge precool area.    Beats a 39 or 33 anyday.

Brian...no offense taken.

I like them for reasons the others stated, they are easy to move around, readily available, embossed, fun to own, and can be used as a cooler or a vending machine.  If the bug hasn't bit you, you should probably sell yours.

We all like what we like...personally, I don't like pepsi square tops, coke water coolers, small bottle single vend machines, etc. but that's just me.  We should all collect what we want and enjoy them. That's what makes this a great hobby!

BTW, I have a restored coke V81D, a VMC 81 Pepsi, and a couple 110's, so I'm not limited to sliders...I just like anything that serves multi vended cold ones!

Ok. I like the fact you can vend multiple bottles. But if I have a craving for an orange crush and I have stacked the mech with 5 pepsis and 3 dr peppers before i get to my OC, don't I have to slide 8 bottles out of the mechenism before I can get to what I'm in the mood to drink?

It still seems a little single flavored to me. Also I was going to do a complete tear down of one and I could not figure out how to separate the coolant lines from the tank liner. Are the lines welded or glued to the inside of the tank? It sounds like a good winter project    I may restore one of my generics to Johnny Ryan which is a local Niagara Falls independent soda company.
