I know these are much harder to find, but is $800 anywhere in the ballpark for what's essentially a vendo-63?

I see them all the time in my area, I think there are at least 3 posted right now.  I've seen them advertised from $400 to $1999.

The resource materials call them rare, but there do seem to be quite a few of them around.

Yeah.never seem to see them in New England, I'm just outside Boston in Hopkinton (start of marathon).  I love the embellished look, but just can't bring myself to pay $800 for a 63
