All, I decided to pay a little extra and have my first machine pin-striped. We have two in our local area. I was a hot day in the garage but it was a lot of fun to watch. Artist: John Ybarra. He is mostly known for pin striping classic cars, and other designs all created by him. I don't think he's really into raised lettering but he did a great job. He started painting in Junior High School. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27m6Nz6lo9chttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xZDfEJyDhI&feature=related

Cool video, I'd love to learn how to do that right...I was passed down a set of shaky hands in my family, so I don't think I could ever keep such precision.

It looks easy, but I cant come close to doing a decent job...I have a lot of respect for people that can do this.

How long did it take him to complete it? I am trying to find someone to paint the embossed letters on a 56/81 as my painter openly admits that hand lettering falls outside his talent pool. My wife swears she could do it, but for the sake of marital bliss, I don't even want to think about going down that road. Your video sure makes it look easy - I am sure it is not. You cooler looks fantastic.

It took him about 3 hours. Keep in mind there is a lot of embossed lettering on the cooler. Ther are 5 Coca Cola logos, plus the Have A Coke on the lids. The cost was $250.00 cash, as he was a friend. He has painting since he was in, middle school. I asked him the difficulty and he said it was a 8 out of 10. He is really into pin striping cars, and custom art work. I don't think raised lettering realy excites him.
They do make vinyl logos via Funtronics you can use it as a reverse decal.
Thanks, im very happy with how it turned out.

The cooler looks awesome! Great video. Was he ever like "stop looking over my shoulder!" I know when I draw, nothing is more nerve racking then someone staring at you, let alone recording it. He did a great job!

Thanks.
I asked him if I could see video tape it and explained that I wanted to share it with the website.
For anybody interested in trying to practice a good book is a Speedball lettering book. Its supposed to train your hand over time to make even brush strokes. As you notice he makes brush strokes with the brush. He uses a special brush made out blue squirrel hair they can hold a tremendous amount paint. As far as the paint, its a sign paint its a oil based paint. This is used because its easy to wipe off in lieu of a mistake, and it doesn't dry as fast. Other paints dry to fast, showing start and stop marks in the lettering.
It was a good learning experience and totally worth it.
