Some may remember this Vendo 81 that I picked up, as I needed help identifying what type it was.  It was a 81A that had been repainted two tone, and the original coinmech replaced with an electric mech.  When I got it, it had the large door, and several pieces missing.  I found it for a friend, whose family was designing a "retro" basement, and they thought it would be a nice addition.  They wanted it as original as possible, so while trying to keep the cost down, I was able to swap out the large door for a small door from John, aka Signguy, Tom aka Collecture had a nice original coin mech, Eric did his usual great job with the compressor, and the rest of the parts I purchased from Janet at Funtronics.  I soda blasted the entire exterior and did the body work myself, and sand blasted all the interior parts.  A friend that owns a body shop owed me a favor, so painted it for the cost of materials.  I powder coated all the parts to include the liner, then polished and cleaned extensively everything else.  I even handpainted the embossing myself.  The finished picture was taken prior to the application of the finished decals, and before I had found the crank handle cover plate, but those were all applied. Several good things came out of this:  1:  the Wife said "wow, that really looks nice, we should move your machines inside out of the garage".  2: The wife also said, why don't you go ahead and build that shop to work on these, 3: My friend got a really nice looking machine for 1500.00, as I only charged him for parts/materials.  4: most importantly, his wife wanted it in the family room, and not the basement, and the first night they had it, the kids had a blast playing with it.  Thanks to everyone that helped.  M

The letters looked great until I picked up the door to move it and it wasn't completely dry so my authentic Yankee sweatshirt "waffled" the lettering, and had to touch them up but they came out ok. The painting was nerve wracking and not sure I would do it again.

"Saving" it is right, when they added the large door, lots of new holes were drilled in the door etc, it was in pretty bad shape overall, this one was hard to let go, as it looked really nice when it was finished.
