Were Honor boxes different to the Penny Boxes??

Also seen on ebay a couple of times little boxes that dispensed paper napkins for the bottles.
Has anyone got one of those??

Dave

I haven't seen one of those, but it would make sense for a wet-chest/water cooled machine or an ice chest where you wouldn't want to hold a wet bottle? I have seen old pictures of Ice chest &water-cooled style machines with a small towel attached to the side to wipe off the bottles after you'd pull it out of the chilled water.

There have been a couple that I have seen on ebay I think rather than a napkin it might have been some sort of a paper bag...

I remeber thinking that would be nice and then forgetting all about it and not bidding...

It held a small paper bag or something that you would stick the bottle in as I recall - can't remember what exactly they called it. I haven't noticed one in quite a while, but then again I do not get on eBay as much anymore.

I must regress and say I think the 'Honor Boxes' were used for coolers and machines such as the Cavalier Office Cooler that did not have a coin mechanism. I still do not think that they were ever used to collect the extra penny or two because you were on your honor to pay whatever price was posted.

My point in mentiong Honor Boxes was this, If the route operator wanted to upgrade ALL of his machines to accept extra coinage but didn't have the capability to due to the physical limitations of the machine, maybe they had some of the 4400 Series Penny Boxes sitting around anjust expected people to be honest and put the "extra" 1 or 2 cents in the box, then put the 5 cent's in the main coin entry bezel on the machine.

That almost sounds more feasible than trying to "rig" a switch and a solenoid of some sort to reset or cycle the coin mech in a non-electric Vendo 23.

The little holder for the bottle bags is called a no drip. It was used for wet chests that when a bottle was pulled you put it in a bag to keep the bottle from dripping all over the floor.

Brian,
I understand what you are saying and maybe that did indeed happen, but I'm sure Vendo had kits available with instructions on how to install it like what I uploaded. On certain other machines (like the V-23), Vendo probably issued kits and instuctional supplements detailing their installation procedures.
There were quite a few different coin operated machines still in the field when the price increased, so why would they limit the penny box to a handful? The C-27, C-33, C-51, V-39 and V-110 all had 5, 6, & 7 cent capable coin mechanisms, so there was no need to ever install them on those.

I also read somewhere that it was a tax collection box of sorts and was never associated with the price of Coke- anybody ever hear of that?
