The NRI "Penny Box" is smaller and more rounded than than the typical old kiddie ride coin mech boxes.
I paid $40 for mine at the Kane County Coin-op Show a few years ago. It was complete but rusty and was open but missing the key as usual. I sold it on Ebay last year for around $200.

I bought mine at Kance County as well for $65 which I didn't think was bad for a clean complete original. The ones on the kiddie rides look almost the same as the slider mech/box but ya you're right.

Not necessarily true - The 4405 model was used on the V-83 (not the electronic conversion) and the 4406 model was used on the Jacobs 26.
I'll try to scan some pages detailing how they were connected in the next few days.
but to clarify, an electric type penny box will or won't work on a machine with a mechanical vending mechanism. but it also depends on what model he's holding up to the Jacob's in the first picture.

I saw one on a V-23 once, but I don't know how it was connected to the 23 mech. You would need to connect a CREM and switch to the machine's mechanical mech. Once the penny is inserted in the penny box, the CREM is energized allowing coins to be accepted and then pass through the switch which would reset the circuit....my guess?

Either that or it was used as an "Honor Box".

Were Honor boxes different to the Penny Boxes??
Also seen on ebay a couple of times little boxes that dispensed paper napkins for the bottles. Has anyone got one of those??

honor boxes weren't connected to the coin mech, they were attached to the machine to collect and store the extra coin. You relied on the 'honor' of the customers to insert the penny, and not just the nickel ( or dime) that passed through the machine.

Weren't the Honor boxes mainly used to collect the deposit on the bottles and not for the 'extra' cent or two?
