Title: Cavalier 33- Newbie explanation needed about evaporator motor please.
Post by: sledworks on January 03, 2013, 05:27:08 pm
Just noticed my Cavalier 33 evaporator motor is not running. It was the other day. I had someone check power and voltage is getting to it. (Just had new wiring harness installed.)

A lot of frost has formed along the refrigeration line and coke bottles at bottom of machine are freezing.

1. What does the evaporator motor/fan do?

2. Who sells replacement ones for my model?

Thanks,

Jimmy

The evaporator fan motor is to keep frost from forming along the refrigeration lines.   Moves that cold air to keep all bottles the same temp.
The suppliers on this site should have your fan motor.

Thanks Glen.

Anxious to get this machine working right for the public to use. Put some shims inside bottle compartment so newer bottles will stack properly.

Don't know if that style motor is available through suppliers. It is not your normal evap fan motor.
Might be difficult to locate. I think something could be found though.

Here's image of motor. I have a few feelers out. If I go to Granger's, what specs do i tell them? The manual only says "two wire shaded pole type".

It looks just like the guts to my bathroom's exhaust fan, I'd bring it along for the ride to Graingers. other than the squirrel-cage blower, it's identical to a Choice Vend or a Glasco sliders evap' motor.

helpful hint no. 136, this type of motor's rotation can be easily reversed by removing the armatures ( rotating core) end bearing plates & flipping it ( the armature) over 180-degrees to the opposite side of the field coils. & reassembling it, just be sure not to over torque the thru-bolts or you'll lock the rotor in place, or warp the bearings end-caps to the point where may cause the core to rub up against the field coils opening.

Thanks JohnieG. Should I try this one from one of the suppliers here?

I'm not 100% sure if your current motor is even original to your V33, check out the replacement motor shown for your specific model on the same page.

That's for a VMC 33. I have a Cavalier.

You can try Johnstone suppy if you have one where you live Ive had good luck with them in the past getting condensor and evap motors. Seems like everytime I go to grainger I stand there for an hour and they give me the wrong motor. Take the old one with you.

It is Johnie. Both of my 33's have that same motor. I'll see it I can get to one this week and see if I can offer more info.

Found suitable replacement motor at Granger this morning. They were very helpful. My repair guy had to bore out the mounting holes on the Cavalier bracket a little as they didn't quite line up with new motor. Seems to be working well.

Looks like a close OEM replacement!
Does appear to be slightly larger, hence the slight in field modification...
All in all, you're back in business!
