It will be interesting to watch this auction, with over 25 upright machines, most of them V81's of different varieties.. I would think they are really shooting themselves in the foot by selling all of these in on auction.. Lots of nice originals and some nicely restored machines too.

I would be interested in one of the RC-81's. What do you guys think they will go for? Look like pretty nice original machines but never have seen one for sale. Matter of fact, all of the machines look great. Would love to go to this auction but unfortunately cant make the trip.

My father loves his auctions. You need DEEEEEEEP pockets for these ones. My father paid $25,000 for the Glascock Salesman sample at the last one.
That reminds me anyone find the leather carrying case for it yet?

I was bidding on all three machines but was out at $10,000. What was the difference between the three? They all looked like in great original condition but $8000 between lot 280 and lot 290...wow! I guess the first RC machine buyer got a deal, huh?

Seeing a machine in person can be much more revealing - pitting of the chrome/dents/etc. I think they said working condition on all three, but that is an open ended statement.
I did notice one of the RC81 machines had a "2 nickels or one dime" decal, but there was a change-giver mech on it.

Wow! So much for a bad market! The rare 81's are still bringing in some cash! Wish I would have kept my 7up 81 now. When I bought it I paid $4500, sold for $5200. Man, that was 3 years ago!

$6900 (inc. B.P. of $1150)

These type auctions always seem to bring more than most other venues like eBay, etc.. Same with the Victorian Casino auctions - deep pocket bidders always.

I've got a couple more to bid on but they are un-restored but look decent. A nice un-restored 81-D, lot 208, went for $2100+ 10% BD... so Im hoping to snag at least one or two. We will see. I might just wait until next Fri. to pick one up in the lot. That way, no Buyers premium. Just Gas!

I think I may look for an RC cooler, a good welder  and a generic VMC. Or win the lottery.

Well, I came away with zero machines. The last one I bid on was lot #520. Unrestored 81-D that sold for $2200. With BP, that put me over the top on my limit. Hope to find one next week in Chicago!

The RC-81's are amazing.  All originals.  On a scale of 10, they're all 8 to 9's.  We will probably never see 3 high end originals again at one auction.  Lot 290 is the best original RC81.  Hence, the $19,000 hammer price.

Other notables: Lot 208 (V-81D) and Lot 320 (7UP 81).  Lot 208 is an original, unrestored beauty.  A solid 8 that sold at a hammer price of $2,100.  Lot 320 was one of the best buys of the day - fully restored in the original all-white color - sold at a hammer price of $5,900.  These were both bought online so add a 20% BP to these prices!

You need to be at the auction to inspect these machines to ascertain their true conditions.  The descriptions were often inaccurate.

A lot of these machines were restored by Larry Smiley in Des Moines.  The restorations appeared to be well done.  Does anyone know Larry?
