OK - I get this email a few months ago. It is from a guy that works the the Solid Rock Foundation (a local not-for-profit charitable organization headed by Alice Cooper). They were given a V-39 as a donation. It has been restored - paint is presentable, but poorly done. There is Bondo evidence, plates rivited on (not welded) down at the base. The '10' on the 10 cents is poorly handpainted around 'cents' decaled on - why not just use the '10-Cents' decal? Hinges, coin entry plate, coin return cup, BO and BO bezel have all had the golden touch applied to them. Check out the liner modification to allow King Size bottles into an early drum. Anyway - they want me to clean it up and fix it up so it works to which I said OK. I spoke with Janet at Fun-Tronics about donating the parts needed to fix it up (to which she said yes) and they will get a tax deductible receipt from the Foundation (Thanks Rod & Janet). I got into it today and was planning on taking some parts take some down to be plated. I am OK with everything behind the coin door, the drum and drum release. I 've broken the vend mechanism down pretty far, but would like to take it apart one more step. I can't slide the shaft through the bracket because of a cast aluminum piece bound on one end and the metal tab on this end. How does this come apart? - see pic 3 Also I am missing a couple of small pieces if anybody has them. I'll buy or trade or whatever. The adjustable SO Flag part that screws onto the end of the rod inside that is triggered by the drum. Also I need two of the fingers on the vend mech that pivot up into the drum when it vends. As some of you are aware, my wife have been to 7 of the 8 benefit concerts that Alice gives here in Phoenix each Christmas and love them. I am more than happy to donate my labor.

That's very cool of you to do. Looks like the machine should get them some decent coin when you are done with it. Two thumbs up to Funtronics for the donation and three thumbs up for you for donating the labor.

I wouldn't mind the specs on the door liner. That might be a cheaper route to modify my 39 to hold the 12 oz bottles instead of buying the repo drum. Nice looking machine. If they are going to raffle that off--count me in for a ticket or two! Tim

Tim, I'll be taking the liner off this week sometime to get the main door latch off. I'll take some nice pics and get some measurements to you. The only issue I see is that they also had to cut the bottle throat in half and now there are no screw holes for attaching the center of the liner. I'll know more once I take the liner off.

OK - I finished it up this last week and fine tuned it this W/E and it works like a champ. I had to put one of my liners and one of my bottle throats in as the modified liner that was with the machine just would not work. The bottle throat had been cut in half, so there was no place to attach door liner to the bottle throat. Also the line cover bend was squared off and it wouldn't sit nice on the curved line cover; therefore, the door looked warped with gap on the bottom right of about an inch and the top right being 1/4 of an inch. The guy had riveted the drum together and had the counter-weights in the wrong location, so I fixed that issue. Everything was re-zinc plated and the drum I had powder-coated. I had all the gold plated items re-chromed back to silver too. I painted the bottom of the liner with POR-15. MUCH MUCH thanks to Rod and Janet at Fun-Tronics for donating the necessary parts to do a proper refurb! I return it tomorrow - hope they like it and get lots of money for it at auction to help the kids!!

Wow! Great job. Your hard work turned out an excellent result. I am also restoring a Vendo 39, but since I am still not the professional that you obviously are, my project is taking a little longer to finish.
I am learning so much form the threads you guys post and the information put out here is making my restorations much more professional looking.
Thanks for sharing your projects and all of the issues and head aches you encountered while finishing them. The information is greatly appreciated.
