         Just sold this cooler last week for $800.00. As you can see, yours is better than this. If I had painted over it I doubt I could have got even $200 to $300 more. People like that original 1940's look better than glossed over paint jobs. Glad you are keeping yours original too.

I would caution you to just use dish soap or car wash soap.

I personally wouldn't use Simple Green on it. Simple Green will attack a painted surface if left on too long. You will see fading and removal of paint. When I was still shipboard in the Navy, we used to get Simple Green by the 50 Gallon Drum and we used it to clean EVERYTHING! When used on painted surfaces it definitely would damage it/fade it if left on for very long and the paint use on equipment and decks (floor), bulkheads (walls) & overheads (ceiling) is pretty stout stuff.

If you do use it, keep it wet and wipe quickly!
