I have an opportunity to pick up a Scotsman Coca Cola Ice Machine with attached fountain. Unforetunately the fountain isn't the Galaxie model  down

Having never dealt with these machines I have no idea about parts availabilty. The fella selling it says the fountain works fine but the ice maker is missing the "gearbox? and that prevents it from making ice.

any thoughts?

If a scottsman is like a reynolds or hishaki (unsure of spelling) icemaker the gear box is the part that turns the auger of the icemaker. The auger moves the water/ice through the evaporator and into the hopper of the icemaker. So it is a vital part of the icemaker.

Thanks Vend Dr. I was thinking that it had somehting to do with the ice production/dispensing portion of the machine. Is somehting like that fairly generic or is that a part that was probably made just for that unit?

The guy is asking $200 obo. Does that sound like a fair price? I figure I'd offer him $150.

I have not worked on a Scottsman ice maker before so I don't know for sure. If they are like Reynolds ice makers the same gearbox was used on several different ice makers but then again all of the ones I worked on were for vending machines just different makes and models.
