I painted my trucks trailer hitch with rustoleum hammertone last week and today there was rust on it. I gave it 3 solid layers of paint too. What is going on?

Hmmm... don't know.... I have a buddy that painted his truck bed with black hammertone... and hauled wood all last winter... now where it scuffed and scratched rust appeared but still held up well and again that was rolled on thick.

Also... Squid?...(Eric) painted some shelfs in a soda machine with hammertone paint and others with silver aluminum paint...
the hammertone looked brand new still after 6months and he didn't even prep them... the
link should be somewhere here... someone that is good at finding those should bring that up...

I use hammertone all the time. Never has failed me. One of my clients machines that I restored 10 years ago still looks as is I painted it today.

Yeah.. you have to remove as much rust as possible before painting.. Even using a rust neutralizer first before painting will make a big difference.

I used a wire brush that fits in the drill so all the rust came off. It does say on the can that you can spray over rust but I didnt want to do that. Its weird because the rust is forming on the rustoleum but it will wipe right off.

nope. Its only rusting on the receiver, the hitch is fine so far. I am going to give it another coat. Rustoleum high heat works great on my smoker just not on the truck
