Insulation?

Has anyone thought of, or tried using foam insulation instead of fiberglass insulation.

Yes, people here have used both. Some have also tried using expandable spray foam!

I personally like to use unfaced fromaldahyde-free insulation, the good ole' pink stuff.

There are pro's and cons to all of them:

Fiberglass:
Pro's - Original method used by OEM, excellent coverage, cost effective
Con's - Itchy!!

Foam Board:
Pro's - Not Itchy
Con's - Not original method use by OEM, Must glue/tape joints to seal properly,

Expandable Spray Foam:
Pro's - Full coverage, good R value.
Con's - Not original method use by OEM, Messy,Over-expansion of foam can distort body, Most EXPENSIVE!!

I know a guy who uses the foam board and fills the voids with expanding foam. But the expanding foam can get nasty. I have found that the fibreglass insulation works great and it was OEM.

The expanding foam would create a problem if you ever had to go back and remove the tub.

When I took the liner out of the machine I just got and saw that the bottom was rusted out,I started to think about changing to foam, because it doesn't hold moisture like fiberglass.  I was also thinking that the higher R-value would keep the inside colder, so the compressor doesn't run as often.
