Restoring an old sign.

I found an old 7-UP sign that has the familiar brown on it from the (wax?) paper that was between it and the other signs when it was in the original stack when new.  I see where other paint restoration suggestions are buffing with rubbing compound or sanding (1000 grit) or wet sanding.  Has anyone ever successfully "cleaned" this off of a sign, and if so, what did you do?

What ever you decide, don't use solvents! no matter how carful yo are, some will get to the under-side & ruin the reverse-paint

I've successfully taken off the wax paper discoloration with a small rag and small amounts of Soft Scrub with bleach. Use sparingly, and scrub till your fingers hurt, but it takes it off and then clean with water really good and apply a good coat of wax.... did this 5 years ago and sign is still brite as snow.

Don't know anything about removing wax paper, but the guys over on oldgas.com speak highly of something called "Feed and Wax" avalible at Home Depot. They are using it on porcelain signs.
Picked up a cool DANGER No Smoking porcelain sign this weekend. Will see how it cleans up.
