Sweatin' in Arizona... but it's a dry heat!

WWW
« on: April 14, 2007, 03:10:25 pm »

Thinking I might make a jump to try a roundtop.  Not sure what's there and what's missing other than the coin mech.  Do these machines take the hard to find and really expensive mech?  Any other things I should ask the seller?

Most importantly what should I offer?

I saw this one too. Cragislist is awesome! You can search for key words in all cities. Anyway, not sure on how to find a coin mech or anything like this. These guys on here will know!

How do you search for keywords in all cities?  I have only been able to figure out how to search one city at a time.

the hardest will be a VMC bezel they're different embossing but
I'm pretty sure everything else from Vendo will fit.... the coin door,
mech and stuff will pop up or folks here will help find the parts... nice find...

I emailed Bryan after I read this post indicating that I would really like to have the machine.
I have all the missing parts from that VMC110 I bought a little while back including the VMC bezel.
He graciously stepped aside and I owe him for that.
I emailed the seller and got a response saying that tomorrow night will be convenient. I am keeping my fingers crossed and cash ready.
Finally getting my DP 81 hopefully!!  '<img'>

Hope you get it Tom.  It would be even better if you get it home and there is a "gift" under that Dr. Pepper sign.

Tom - if you get it let us know what you find under the DP signs... I'm guessing it's a converted Pepsi machine.

I think it is generic. An embossed machine would have letters
starting above the existing sign.

I think it is generic as well..
..the only embossing I think could be under the sign is 7UP..
..the RC would not fit under the sign and I don't think Coke or Pepsi would either.
Not the clearest of pics, but we'll see!
He is supposed to call me today when he gets back in town.  '<img'>
Bryan - I am mulling over a couple of finders fee deals I'll pass off to you if this goes through.

I got it for $700 - I offered $600 and he said he had an offer for $650 already.
I replied $700 would be the highest I would go considering what was missing.
OK!
Picked it up this afternoon.
Generic machine - just what I wanted for a DP machine.
Combined cost - VMC110 $450 - VMC81 $700.
Overall cost will come down after I sell off parts from the 110.
The 81 is missing the linkage - can the 110 linkage be modified to work?
If not, does anyone have an extra to sell?
Eric - the last couple of pics are for you.
I kind of like the bottle cap decal.
I can supply much better quality pics if needed -
tripod mounted up to 10 MB

Well I was wrong - it is not missing the linkage.
When I first looked in the access hole, I did not see it and thought it would be resting on the insulation.
I couldn't figure out how it was gone since it appeared that the liner had never been removed.
I peeked in again this morning and felt around a little deeper and there it was!!

Do you need better pics? If so, PM me you email address and I'll get you some larger file pics.
It will be several months before I will even have a chance to mess with it - yeah right!
I am pretty psyched about it.
Brian - I have all the parts from my VMC110, so I am set on them.

Ah......parts machines, we all NEED them.
Nice combination of machines there Tom.

Do you notice any other colors under the
green paint? Looks like a larger sign may have
preceeded this Dr Pepper sign.
In other words.........do you think this has
always been Dr Pepper? If so wonder why the
porcelin sign is of a different era.?

I haven't been able to find another color...peeled back the main door gasket and it is green underneath.
I too noticed the outline of a larger sign, but there are no other screw holes besides the ones for the current Chevron DP.
Wasn't the Chevron DP logo 60's? What era is the bottle cap decal with the "dancing P's"- 60's?

I was wrong about there being another sign on top.
The holes I saw were from that Barqs sign you removed.
Â     The side decals are proper vintage, so this machine
may have been built with this DP plate or maybe it is the
exact same size as the original?  I kind of like it!

Thanks everyone, but the find congrats should really go out to BryanH.
I would never had known about it if he hadn't posted something about it (he is probably kicking himself about it).
In all respect though, I did contact him before I acted on it and he gave me the go ahead.
I offered him a deal on my spare late model V39 ($400) -
missing coin door because I traded it, but I have the bezel.
He made a post that he did not want anything in return, but I owe him.
C'mon Bryan - I am just about begging you to let me reward you!

Oh - Moondawg - I was wrong - there are two separate holes next to the bottom ones under the sign.
I previously had only removed the top right to see if there was any embossing.
If it had a different sign, it most likely had different decals on the sides.
I am going to measure the old sign's outline and see if I can figure out what it was.
I too like the bottle cap decals with the sign though -

Slowly breathing life back into the 81!
Moondawg - I noticed a round decal underneath the bottle cap decals.
Look at the second picture.
I took some 400 grit paper to the paint and exposed a 4 at the bottom,
so I think it has always been a DP machine...
...and will be again! '<img'>

Hi,Tom
         Great Find & Buy  '<img'>

I Got a Vendo 110 that the lady Swore was a Pepsi Machine .Painted RED,White,Blue . 50s Single Dot Cap decals on side's Plastic Squre Pepsi sign In the same place your's was . But  I sorta new better .So to Be the Honest person I am .I asked permission to remove the Inner door liner .Then moved the Insultion Low & Behold Coca-Cola Inbossing .So I made a fair deal with her .
The out-side had been Bondo over sand & painted . I beleive Kevin C ended up with it Threw Josh .

Leonard,
In due time I will, but I am 99% sure it is a generic. I've put it to the magnet test.
The guy I bought it from was a greenhorn (no pun intended).
He told me he bought it off a guy down the street from him for $100 about 10 years ago.
His wife used the shelves as a sort of filing cabinet for the kids school papers.
He was moving and was just trying to minimize the load.
I asked if he had any other advertising stuff and he said no.
He was telling me about all the questions he was being asked about embossing, etc. and he had no idea what they were talking about.

Looks as though we are going to have a member who has the
whole set of Dr.Pepper machines as well as the guy who has all
of the 7up machines.   '<img'>

This just jarred my memory. Several years ago I was driving
down the freeway trying to meet my appointment on time when
I started comming up to a stakebed truck in the slow lane.
Matresses , bed frame and refrigerator were visible from a
distance.  As I got closer I could see something green. It had an
outline like an ideal 55 slider.  Mirage?  Has this hobby finally
sent me over the edge? Am I hallucinating? '<img'>

As I got closer and it got bigger my mind was not on my driving.
I was now following a nice original slider with a perfect looking Dr Pepper porcelin sign , cap catcher and coin box.  Wow!
It was not wrapped or protected in any way which indicated
the owners didn't have much respect for it!  Well maybe they want
to sell it?  '<img'>  How do I get them to stop on the freeway?

My exit was next so I watched that 55 travel to some
unknown destination.   '<img'>
