I was updating my collection inventory list for my coke collection, machines, etc for my insurance. I've always just kept a spreadsheet of item, where I bought it, how much and how much I have it insured for (market value).
I have seen some software in the past that allowed a few photos and description and other information?  just curious if any of you inventory your stuff and how?
Also was looking into the Collectibles Insurance Agency out of MD. I was thinking of doing something like that for coverage as itemization on a Homeowners policy just doesn't cut it, and in the event of a loss, could be a real mess. Anyone else use Collectibles Insurance Agency?? I see they hooked up with Ebay too?
Thoughts? '<img'>

I use the same system as you. Excel spreadsheet and then fall under my home owner's insurance. I need to get better coverage. If I lost my machines and 7up collection, I would be in trouble. Great questions! If anyone knows of software to track items and showcase pictures that would be great.

I have asked my State Farm agent a few times about extra insurance and each time they have explained reasons why we don't need any additional coverage.  I wonder if I should ask once more since my agent has recent changed.  I probably have most$ into advertising signs.

I asked my insurance agent last week USAA and they told me I was fully covered if something happend inside the house, fire, tornado, theft, etc. I am also covered outside the house at my storage unit for 10% of my homes value. Seems strange, but that is way more than I have in storage. They said it does not matter, items that are in storage, including collectables are covered!

I am an insurance agent and as of today still I have only had my collection covered under my homeowners policy as there wasn't really anything more you could do.
yes, our collections are covered under "personal Property" on homeowners policys. HOWEVER, some insurance companies say only household objects are coverd and collectables/art/etc need to be scheduled. I have had my objects scheduled on a policy, where every item has been listed and a value assigned to it, but it's hard to keep up with that if you buy and sell alot.
And with scheduling, it works like this. if you have a $500 item, you have it scheduled on your homeowners policy as an itemized item worth $500. It burns in a fire. The insurance company just doesn't hand over $500 to you. They say Ok, what was it, condition, etc. Go out and buy another one just like it (which can be hard) then if it only cost 450 to replace, they only give you $450. If it costs $550 to replace , you ONLY get $500 because that is what is scheduled for. COMPLICATED AND LONG replacement process.  I just discoverd the collectibles insurance company and they do blanket policies for your whole collection and in the event of loss, fire, theft, tornado. replace the full value of the collection as long as you can prove the loss.
Insurance is confusing on this stuff... and there really is no Perfect answer, but I'd really dig into it with our insurance agent to see how YOUR insurance company will handle the claims process.

I have heard nothing but great things about Collector Insurance.  It has been from people who have had to use their coverage and no complaints at all.
I have their application filled out, just haven't gotten around to turning it in.

Hey John , I'm a  agent also,  I have mine set up an a schedule   and every year I bump mine from $10 to $25
depending on machine/ or cooler  .
Now I don't have all of them insured ,I've got about three of them insured.
I to have looked into Collectible Insurance Co.  and I do like that blanket policy.
And one reminder take photo's or a video and store it at you office of family members home, Because it is hard to prove when the tape or photo's were in the home  that  just burned down  '<img'>.

Great words of wisdom, thanks all. Another thing is preventing problems you can control. Working smoke detectors, proper wiring, fire supression system etc...

Prevention is obviously the key... your right Creighton.
Pat, are you a captive or independant agent?
I'm gonna switch over to Collectors Insurance this next week after spending some time with one of our underwriters and having him explain how we would go about handling a claim, if I ever had to make one.  It would be a nightmare to prove quality and value of each item. Plus pricing on Collectibles insurance Company is much better than my schedule. The rate card is approximately 4.75 per thousand of value you insure.. Not bad!
