From what I recall Ebners book estimates are a bit high?? I once had a man quote a price for me on a square top he was selling and it was very high. I passed on that machine. I think Walters book prices are more realistic.

you guys should type out a value list(Based on your knowledge and what the book says)...and post it somewhere as a sticky for some reason you can't find a good list of values anywhere
Maybe we should come out with a SMC value guide!!

The prices are usually listed as an estimate just for that reason! I would probly list the value and also list the guide or how i came about that value...usually people won't complain about prices to you if you say you got it from this and this guide or a sampling of auctions/guides

Steve Ebner's price guide that comes with the book is for both Volume 1 and 2. Mine is dated 1996.

The values had to have changed alot in 11 years!
Whenever someone quotes those value guides I don't think it is very accurate!
It would be like quoting muscle car values from 10 years ago.

The dollar values in the guides actually tell us desireability. While a Mills machine may be rare, it's not worth as much as a Vendo 81. If book value on the restored 81 is 4500.00 but now in 2006 we see them sell for $6000.........we adjust our appraisal

I agree to adjust for 2006. But alot of guys are quoting straight out of the guides when people ask for a value without adjusting. And I don't think that is realistic.
By the way it was nice to meet you last week, I enjoyed seeing your shop!

I disagree. 11 years ago the market for machines was way high and then the bottom fell out not too many years later. I have found that the prices for unrestored machines is really close. I agree that the restored prices are off but for example here are some unrestored prices from Walters book
V81D $1,950
V56 $1,950
V44$2,150
V39 $850
Jacobs 26 $1,500
Pepsi jacobs 56 $3,250
These seem to be pretty close to what I see things selling for right now. If anything they might even be slightly high.
