Need help on a vendorlator v24te

Hello...we recently rescued a Pepsi Vendorlator V24TE that was on it's way to the local dump. This unit was left in the back of an aircraft hangar that a friend of ours purchased. He was given a key that was supposedly for the machine, but when he tried it, it wouldn't work. We tried plugging the unit in and it does run but won't get cold. At this point, our friend gave up and dropped the machine off here. I have called a couple local vending machine oufits and all they really want to do is sell me another restored machine. I've been told this one isn't worth the effort. This machine was being used as a beer cooler until recently (judging by the bottle caps in it), so I don't think it's been sitting there out of order for a terribly long time.
First question, where would I find a key? All the lock says on the outside is "ACE". The serial number is 66B31648 if that could help. Secondly, any ballpark figures on what repairing the compressor unit might cost? Thirdly, how old is this thing? I'm thinking mid '60s, but there's a mix of Pepsi logos thru to the late '70s. While I've always enjoyed tinkering with old things (mostly radios and hi-fis), this is the first soda machine I've messed with (or should I say "would mess with if I could get it open"?). Any information would be greatly appreciated...Thanks!

G.,
I have never heard of a Vendolator model with that number. Are you sure that's it? Could it be a Vendo? If you can you post a picture, that would help.
1. Check out any of these guys (
http://soda-machines.com/supplier/index.html
) for parts like your key, etc. If all else fails, have a locksmith drill out the lock and buy a new one.
2. Try simply recharging the compressor or having someone recharge it. If you would like to have it refurbished contact
Eric at Global compressors (
http://www.globalcompressors.com
).
Hope that helps,
Tom
