Check this one out on eBay....
Look at the embossing - large, closer to the
bottle door and no “IN BOTTLES”.....

Could this be a “C” model?..... Or is that a decal and
not embossed? Did Vendo make a non-embossed?

Ive personally never seen anything like it. I was up at Randys yesterday and he had a Vendo 81A front door there and the words vendo is not embossed on the front lower right. A faint decal was in place, First either of us has ever seen.

Well it has a Vendorlator bottle door on it. I bet it is a generic Vendorlator that someone wanted to look like a V81D. I bet the Sprite sign is to cover up the VMC embossing on the door.

My bet is on a generic machine with a decal.

My bet is it is generic also.
I did run across this the other day though.
I recently bought one of the monster Coca Cola Cooler Service Manuals like the one Timsmore copied for everybody. Mine has some pages that were not included (that I can find) in his scans (I will get everybody interested copies as soon as I get my office back and the scanner set up).
At the front of the Vendo section, there 5 coded sections and there is a reference to the Vendo 56 (Model A only), the Vendo 81 (Model A, B & C, and D) and then the Vendo 110 (Model B & C up to serial # 10014, Model C above serial # 10014, Model D & E and Model F). There must have been a 81C produced. As far as I can tell from the corresponding parts list, it is just the same as the 81B.
Below is a picture of the heading on one of the V81 pages. Under the 'Part Number' column, it says V81 MD and then under that 'Model A', 'Model B&C' and 'Model D'.

My personal opinion is this is indeed a Vendo 81D coke just the letters have been smashed in or have body filler over them. The medallion on the bottle door apears to be there just painted over. It has all the Vendo signs from the vendo on the lower right, correct coin entry bezel etc. If this machine was non embossed the coin entry would be different or at least one time, the words vendo would not be in the lower right corner unless its a decal? The machine even has a Vendo tag on the side.

Just from the looks of the picture provided, I can see no embossing, just a flat decal or painted lettering, I'd say it's a generic, seem like a lot of trouble to remove the embossing & fill it in, just to get a "D" model. & the ID tag picture provided on ebay is worthless to hel ID this one, too out of focus... looks like "hodge-Podge" manufacturing did this one.

The more I look at it, it looks like they used a vinyl decal for a pre-war cooler and a Vendo decal at the bottom. I just can't see somebody hammering in the Coca Cola embossing just to turn around and make it a Coke machine.
