Before I destroy the coin door trying to get the piece around the cap catcher and the coin return off, can someone please offer me some advice on removing these items so that I can properly sand and prepare this for painting?  I really don't want to tape around it as I won't be able to get through the levels of oxidation unless I remove them and it obiously won't look as good if I tape it off.

I've attached pics of what I'm describing, both front and back.  Thanks in advance.

The coin return bezel is riveted on. From the back side drill the rivets out with a 1/8" drill bit, then when painted, re-install with tiny machine screws and nuts.
The bottle opener bezel has 4 tabs inside that need to be folded open, and the back portion lifts up and off.
Oh................and your bottle door is on it's way       ':<img:'>

Thanks Moondawg!  5 m inutes later and the cap catcher bezel is off and the change return bezel is off .  Amazing how quickly this stuff comes together when you have some direction.  Thanks again.  Hopefully this stuff will become more instinctive or I'm in for a long road  '<img'>

Fun-Tronics sells nickel plated brass rivets that are "like original" except they are split on the backside and can be installed easily. Also offered are unslotted truss head screws. You could probably find both of these at your local hardware store.

Hey don't despair.

I drew blood the other day trying to get the bloody bottle opener bezel back on.

Both bezels are reproduced. I bought a coin return one a few months back off ebay and
its great and I used the screws that Glen & Tom recommend.
