I'm new to the soda machine ownership group. I just purchased a DN330/189-5 machine at an auction for $25. The machine powers on, but doesn't seem to cool. Only has only gotten down to about 60 degrees, after 6 hours. Will it take longer to cool, or do I need to check the compressor? The machine is HUGE!!! From what I found, it should hold 330 cans or 189 bottles. I put cans in it for now, but I would like to know how to load bottles. Assuming I can get it to cool better. The diagram on the inside shows to put shims in the trays to load bottles, then you need to adjust the shoot, but I have no manual so I don't know what to adjust. BTW, the date code is 1980. Thanks for the help.

Can't help on the loading, but for the cooling, check to make sure the thermostat is turned on. Also make sure that both cooling fans are coming on.... There is one on the compressor deck, and there is atleast one in the cooling compartment to circulate the cold air.

Thanks. I had the thermostat set at 5 (midpoint). I just turned it down to 7, I checked the inside this morning, and it was down to 56 degrees. Still not cold enough to drink.
Both fans are working. The top fan is on all the time, and the bottom fan turns on when the compressor turns on.

How often is the compressor cycling (turning off and On), and how hot is it? Unless the thermal overload is shutting it off it sounds like you have a bad Thermostat. An easy chech for this is to unhook the two wires from the thermostat and connect them together. this bypasses the thermostat. Do NOT leave them like this for an extended period of time. Also touch the refrigerant lines where the cap tube ( the really small one) connects to the evaporator ( the coil inside the machine). Is it cold?

It looks like the fan on the compressor isn't turning fast enough. I opened the back of the machine, and the fan is barely turning. Like I can turn it by hand faster... The compressor is getting real hot. Is this fan easy to repair/replace? I'm a regular DIY'r but I've never worked on a fridge. I placed a box fan behind the unit, and now it is cooling much faster, but this doesn't seem like a long term strategy.
And yes the coolant lines are cold, but I bet the thermal overload is kicking in. As without the box fan, it only runs for about 5 minutes then shuts off.
