Sometimes a question does not require a picture to answer. Some newby's might not have a digital camera or the knowledge to upload it correctly. In the spirit of SMC, I think all should be welcome to ask and get answers to their questions regardless of their personal limitations. If I were a newcomer to the site, I would hate to be blackballed right off the bat for such a rule. I would not revisit the site. Just my thoughts!

And not everyone is familiar with a discussion board, let alone navigating it. Sorry Kevin, part of the reason I keep visting without really having as much to add as others is because of the willingness to share information, even if it's given out repeatedly. And reading of everyone's victories, triumph's, and head pounding problems gives me incentive to keep proding along

Yeah - I have to agree with Tom & Jim. If I can help then I don't mind giving them a quick answer. If it's one of those things that's always asked I try to point them to the search tool for more details.

I have to agree with Tom & Jim , This Site was Built by Jim and I don't think he wanted to discourage anybody from injoying this site. Can you imagine if some of the first members did this ? To avoid the newbee's till they got their first photo or had a few posting's under their belt. NO I don't think so. This site would not be what it is today. Jim built this site for people who injoy this hobby to ask question to help other people and to make new friend's.... So we need to help our new members or our friend's, we want this to be the best site out there on the world wide web..

Here Here on the nays!! This hobby will only continue through new members. Many of the machines being asked about lately aren't in the listings. The new folks are asking the questions and posting the pictures that build the database for others down the road to work from. We all were new here once. I want to thank Jim and all the others that have helped over the years!! Creighton

I came to this site almost three years ago with a stupid question about how to get a coin mech to work on a USS-64. We all started somewhere and it was all of the friendly people here that offered all of their advice and help no matter how stupid my question was that got me to stay here and got me into collecting machines.

When I first signed on to SMC as a guest, I didn't have a digital camera nor did I have access to borrow one. I would have been totally out of luck! So, I'd have to agree with the others.
Sometimes answering that odd or basic question is all it takes to "plant the seed" and get a casual first time user or a "lurker" to start posting on a more regular basis and it also helps perpetuate the hobby, er I mean, lifestyle!! '>

I have to agree with the majority on this...
Eventhough, I'm not as big a presence as I used to be be, I think everyone that has dropped a nickel in the coin chute has received a warm welcome and possible solutions to a problem that brought them here...
That has ONLY happened because of the friendliness of those who have made this Site a great soda machine enthusiasts community!
As with any newbie, they may be unfamilair with board edicate, forum navigation, or an array of other issues; however, I also believe it's up to our elders to guide visitors in the right direction so the experience can be a benefitial one. This is how great communities are created!
I'm sure there are a multitude of stories from members that have benefited in one way or another from their experiences at SMC...
With all this said, I only hope our members continue to support newbies to SMC. If a little direction is needed, provide it so that they may find a possible solution. If a newbie isn't willing to help themselves, then we can't help them either...
Just a few thoughts... '>
