I once had a VF-117 with an evaporator coil that had been accidentally punctured. Fixed it by soldering the hole and then pulled a vacuum on it to remove all moisture and impurities and recharged it now it works like a champ.

So, all hope isn't lost with that original deck!

Quote (collecture @ May 20 2006,7:43)
If there is a leak in the lines, wouldn't that ruin the system beyond repair? Air and moisture in the lines, etc.

Not necessarily, but you'd need all the proper equipment to repair it yourself, such as a vacuum pump,a gauge set, a jug of replacement refrigerant (R12/414A, etc.) and a brazing torch. (about $500.00 in all) not to mention proper training.

As you can see, not very economical for a single machine,

So, you'd best call on a serviceman, be it Eric at Global, or a local shop...based on what you've describe,

My guess is the compressor deck wasn't secured to the machines base, (missing mounting bolt) & when you put it on its back for the ride, Wham! it slid out of its mounts & crimped a line, or it was crimped & from someone attempting to service the deck, or simply a pin-hole caused by corrosion of the copper lines...

Remember, It's OK to lay a machine down on it's back for transportation, but the minumum rule is for every hour down, an hour up.

I'd think perhaps a "turn key" replacement deck would be the ticket in your case, Eric may have a rebuilt deck that will slide in , & perhaps credit you for the reusable parts of your's, or of course, repaired yours, but if one hole is already present, what shape is the rest of the system? food for thought.. PS folks, remember to secure the compressor deck before you transport, inspect it!

Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes.
Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon!
The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p
Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor

"Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

I spoke to Eric yesterday and he said about $700 bucks we can get this thing in tip top shape. Thats a total refrigeration replacement package. So I told him to give me some time and I'd bring it to him.

Well my machine is at Eric's ,took it today. Super nice guy and pretty sweet setup in the shop. Coke machines all over the place. I fell in love with a Vendo 44 he had sitting there.
I took a buddy with me and he is contemplating buying a machine Eric had sitting in the shop ,I don't recall the make/model but very nice machine.
