Music choices

Hi All,
Just a thought...off the soda topic here.
Most everyone has been a member of SMC for some time. Maybe some of you have met face to face - maybe not! In an effort to get to know one another better and might make a good slam / fan topic. What kind of music does everyone like or dislike. When the birthday topic came up a little while back, I check out everyones age and, other than Moondawg [old man j/k '>] everyone seems to be in their 40's. Long before I dove head first into collecting soda stuff, I collected music. My teenage years being in the 70's, I mainly bought what I like (R&R), but I as time went by I also ventured out in a little R&B, country, disco and grunge in the early 90's. Never really got into rap although I do own a Monster Rap CD with "Walk This Way" and whatever that Vanilla Ice song was among others. I still have a lot of the Westwood One and King Biscuit Flower Hour recordings (not a tape, but the actual vinyl that was distributed to the radio stations). If anyone has a particular favorite band, I have transferred a lot of the concerts to CD and would be happy to burn you one if you want. Real quality sound! Anyway, what makes you boogie woogie?

I am one of the younger ones of the group (24). I mostly listen to Country and bluegrass.

I'm 40... Loved Oak Ridge Boys & Statler Brothers
also Charlie Daniels, Eagles and CCR in High School.
Then went to college and sang in a Southern Gospel Quartet
this is now my favorite type music. I do listen to
Harry Connick Jr. and Michael Buble (wife Loves them)...
Like Big Band, Brian Setzer, 50s Rock and Roll.
Basicly anything from or that sounds like they're from
the 40s to mid 60s.
80s got a little weird for me don't really remember anything that stood out from the 90s... But that's me.

Well, I am the rebel I guess. I had three older brothers who were into the 60's R&R, so I kind of inherited their taste. I love Stray Cats and Brian Setzer also and have seen him a few times - great show! I have a couple of concerts of his if you guys are interested. One is of his band in Vegas, another is a Stray Cats concert from the late 70's or early 80's and I also have a fun little Sun Records thing with Brian Setzer, Ricky Scaggs, Elvis Costello and Marty Stuart where they do a bunch of old Sun Records tunes. PM me with your address and I'll mail you a CD if you are interested.

Once again I am in between music genre's.. In the 70's I was listening to early rock of the '50's, and proudly admit I was the only suburban kid in the country without a copy of  "Frampton comes alive"

I still have 45's of classic songs of the 60's and 70's for the day I get  a jukebox, but for now I listen to the  International Silver String Submarine Band

Back in school, almost 20 yrs ago (wow, I sound old) I was nicknamed Metalhead. Big Metallica, Anthrax, AC/DC, Ozzy, etc.... I don't like any of the 90's or newer metal, grunge, whatever its called.  I have DTV Satellite, and use their music stations for my music at home...Their heavy metal station I didn't like, so I started listening to 60's-70's rock. A few months ago, they changed to XM satellite radio for their music stations. While relearning the stations, I started listening to the old heavy metal again...

In the car, I usually listen to talk radio, news type of show... The hosts are great, and it gives me a good idea of just how bad and corrupt my wonderful State of NJ really is...

I like most music from the 50's on up.  Right now I am listening to Club977 (80's), in the car I usually listen to local station that plays the the "80's, 90's and today" (it's satellite programing most of the day, but a local DJ (former student) in the morning).  I also listen to the local country station.
After over 20 years, this is my first year not working in radio (feels weird just listening).  The only types of music I do not like are "death metal" and classical.  I'm also not a big fan of current CHR (Top 40) music.  At least back in our day songs would just hint at things - Afternoon Delight, Little Red Corvette, Funky Cold Medina, etc.  The songs nowadays just slap you in the face and give you graphic details of what they did in the bedroom or kitchen.  Not quite sure if it is the old fart or the radio station manager (community standards anyone?) in me.

This should spark another topic of "What is in your jukebox?".

You are so right Dr Galaga. I remember Rich Girl by Hall and Oates and when they said bitch it was so scandalous! On Money by Pink Floyd where they said bull s*it they would fade out the s*it. On brown eyed girl (Van Morrison)  they would substitute "makin love in the green grass" outside the stadium with  you , my brown eyed girl with laughin and runnin hey hey with you , my brown eyed girl.

I am stuck in the 70's and early 80's, with some 60's thrown in. Beatles, Stones, Moody Blues, ELO, Yes, Led Zepp, the Who, Badfinger, Raspberries, with a lot of more obscure "Power Pop" type bands. when I pull out the vinyl, the kids act like it is a model T ford!
